[CDATA[What can I say about Nsquared? To try to explain the DJ's signature sound would be doing him a disservice; it avoids an easy categorization. One of the most independent and innovative DJs had <--quote#right-->existed mostly under the radar. However, he has been far from inactive; after a hiatus from the DJ scene, he has since become one of Los Angeles' most sought after DJ darlings. Spinning everywhere from Los Angeles to New York he brings his signature sounds of house, electro and rare disco. With , as well as events for the Playboy Mansion – the DJ brings his signature sound – under the guise of The Cocaine Kids – to Shine Nightclub(364 Water Street, Vancouver BC) on Friday January 2. Presented by Tigerstone and Needlkineval. 10:00 PM - 3:00 AM]]

[CDATA[Abortions for all." -Kang from The Simpsons, "Treehouse Of Horror VII." That epigraph was met with boos from everyone. However, when he altered his stance to "abortions for some, miniature American flags for others," the crowd responded positively. Similarly, BC punk stalwarts, Dayglo Abortions, aren't for everyone, to say the least. The band shows such disregard for good taste and morals that Ottawa Police investigated it. Who better to help ring in your New Year than the most classless act in the world? Also playing are Golers and The Frostbacks. Incidentally, we can't stress this enough: the aforementioned installment of The Simpsons rules. Dayglo is at Cobalt Hotel tonight. Full New Year's Eve Listings. - S.T. and R.T.]]

[CDATA[The Toronto edition of Smokin' Grooves, 1996, featured Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, the Fugees, Busta Rhymes, Ziggy Marley, and a host of others. I met Master T in the crowd and chatted briefly about vibes, whatever that meant. And then Michael Franti and Spearhead came on and I thought, "this vaguely incongruent, slightly angry act is a nice addition." Fast-forward 12 years and Franti et al are still churning out socially conscious fusion hop. It begs the question: whatever happened to Master T (doesn't it?). Expect dreads, causes, and a familiar scent in the air tonight and tomorrow at the Vogue Theatre. ]]

[CDATA[You can't get rid of them. They destroyed Vancouver and now they're in Whistler. Tonight, MSTRKRFT hits Garfinkles. MSTRKRFT play Pitchfork style electronic music. It's like regular electronic music, but much more hip. Think Daft Punk filtered through an indie-kid sensibility. What else would you expect from Jesse Keeler, former bassist of minimal metal stalwarts Death From Above 1979? No word yet on whether the audience will dance or stand still with their arms crossed and nod their heads. You should go; with New Year's looming there aren't many chances left for quality live music, let alone dance parties before January. ]]

[CDATA[Occasionally, sub-par flicks or foul weather make it difficult to convince people to head out to the cinema (remember February?). However, in late early winter the watchful eyes of a golden bald man make the task simple. Familiar comedies and big budget action flicks faded as snowdrifts began to cover crumpled leaves. Prestige pics and post-Fest(s) curios have at last hit theatres. The best time of year to be a cinephile has commenced. Here is what you should see.]]

[CDATA[Let's face it; the holidays aren't typically the busiest time for nightlife. It's a time to spare yourself a few days of work, spend some quality time with your loved ones, embrace the spirit of commercialism, but not to hit the bars. Even if you are willing to brave the harsh winter, it can be hard to find any worthy events. Once December 24 comes along, the entire world shuts down (only to reopen with a bang on December 31). Martiniboys.com is here to help you through the tough times. We've searched high and low to come up with some more than viable options to keep you busy this holiday season. ]]
