[CDATA[Getting bit by a wolf sucks: it hurts, it can give you rabies, and it can turn you into a werewolf. Now, it's even worse. AIDS Wolf plays tonight at The Boat. For any lover of avant-garde indie rock (I know you're out there, Toronto hipsters), this is a can't miss show. The Montreal noise-rock band is definitely cutting edge, but also not for those who are put off by experimentation and inaccessibility. In the band's own words (well, really Captain Beefheart's), their music sounds like "a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag". Trust me, that's a very apt description.]]

[CDATA[Pulling a share of hip downtown urbanites out to Airport Road can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends. Yet, this weekend has the Motorcycle Supershow Consumer giving it a go, and it won’t have to <--quote#right-->work hard at luring the masses. For motorcycle show fans – and I mean real motorcycle show fans – in Canada, this is the holy grail. Sure there are other prominent motorcycle shows in Canada, but this one beats them all. Expect 2009 Motorcycles - including the 2009 Triumph Speed Triple (the only one in Canada) the Ducati Desmosedici RR, Kawasaki's ZX 14, Suzuki's new B-King, Yamaha's V-Max, the 2009 Rocker C from Harley-Davidson, KTM's RC8 Superbike, and Orange County Choppers' Zero Gravity production model - and, ahem, a ton of music, food, and entertainment. Motorcycle Supershow Consumer motorcycle show. Today and tomorrow 10 am-10 pm; Jan 4, 10 am-6 pm. $18, yth $5, children free. International Centre, 6900 Airport. 905-655-5403, supershowevents.com]]

[CDATA[Well, that went fast. New Years Eve, that is. If you're like me, you want to salvage as much out of the NYE weekend as humanly possible. And nothing says post-NYE more than a cold beer in a hot club. Now's your chance to indulge (and possibly overindulge) in the start-of-the-year <--quote#right-->institution. Footwork (425 Adelaide St. W)– which, has matured over the years from a fledging, hit-and-miss, bare wall spot, to a club that effuses a constant flow of kick-ass talent – goes all materialistic dance utopia with Friday, January 2, 10:00pm - 5:00am	. A solid hair-in-the-face rhythm good time. Girls (free), guys ($10). Why is that?]]

[CDATA[Toronto's indie band firmament shines brighter than car lights after eye drops. Much of the luster stems from one massive consortium. Like a panda in heat, Broken Social Scene has been presenting all over the place as of late, making tonight's show at the Phoenix an apropos ending to the year. Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, and Jimmy Shaw host this dance party. If you can kiss one of them at midnight, I'll buy you a cola. Good luck. As always, look for other scenesters and secondary and tertiary associates amongst the fray. Full New Year's Eve Listings. -S.T.]]

[CDATA[Five bucks for five bands per night for five nights, The Drake's annual What's in the Box? is the best deal of the year, and on the penultimate night of the annum, no less. The final in the fine series, tonight's edition features a host of spinsters, including The Mole, Noah Pred, Knowing Looks, and Vincent Lemieux. LA-based, light-touch hero, Nosaj Thing headlines the particularly strong evening. Expect blip serenity and smooth mixes. ]]

[CDATA[Typically, a twig, let alone a slim one, isn't something to brag about. However, if you dress it with a rockabilly nod and a host of disparate but cohesive samples, you have cause to celebrate. Tropics frontman, solo anti-troubadour, and occasional actor, Slim Twig, has ascended to local hero status as of late. Capping a year that saw the release of two stellar EPs (they're now available as a single LP), Slim Twig plays the Drake's fittingly named What's in the Box? tonight. The penultimate installment of the Queen West stalwart's five-gigs-in-five-nights series sees Slim joined by Brides, Hooded Fang, and others. ]]

[CDATA[The holidays have a soporific effect on the city. Maybe it's the tryptophan, the post-spending comedown, or the New Year's preparations; regardless, many Torontonians board themselves up between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. However, that doesn't mean everyone has gone to sleep. In these halcyon days of plenty, there is entertainment to be had. Here's what's happening in Toronto between December 26th and December 30th.]]

[CDATA[Like a prisoner looking around his cell in the final days of a long incarceration, kazoos view their plastic confines with the anticipation of nostalgia. In the necks of champagne bottles, corks tremble in anticipation of flight. Excitement builds as a new year looms. Before eschewing resolutions and changing the calendar, you have one more party to attend: New Year's Eve. Here are the city's best December 31st soirees. As always, don't forget old acquaintances.]]

[CDATA[Occasionally, sub-par flicks or foul weather make it difficult to convince people to head out to the cinema (remember February?). However, in late early winter the watchful eyes of a golden bald man make the task simple. Familiar comedies and big budget action flicks faded as snowdrifts began to cover crumpled leaves. Prestige pics and post-Fest(s) curios have at last hit theatres. The best time of year to be a cinephile has commenced. Here is what you should see.]]
