[CDATA[Like it or not, cell phones are taking over the world. It doesn't seem like that long ago that "cellular telephones" were still a considered novelty, owned only by important businessmen and Zack Morris. Nowadays, it's not uncommon to see twelve year olds texting each other "meet u at tha monkey bars lol". Thus, it seems a bit anachronistic that in as modern and transit-dependent a city as Toronto, there is still no reception in the subway.]]

[CDATA[Like many Torontonians, I use the Toronto Transit Commission almost every day. Sometimes it's easy to forget just how lucky we are to have a public transit system that is accessible almost everywhere in the city. The only problem (and it's a big one) is ther TTC's unreliability. In addition to cranky suit-wearing thirty-somethings, packed cars, and a smell that can best be described as a combination of sweat and misery, taking the subway at rush hour subjects you to all sorts of unforeseeable delays and transfers. At times it hardly seems worth it.]]

[CDATA[A bastion for posh shopping, Bloor-Yorkville teems with ladies who lunch, moneyed shoppers, househusbands, and hordes of well-to-do consumers. The epicenter of Toronto's up-market retail world, the area boasts myriad haute couture boutiques, jewelry retailers, and shops catering to moneyed consumers. Now, it also brims with construction paraphernalia and attendant contention. ]]

[CDATA[TTC workers and the city's transit operator have, at the last moment, reached a tentative settlement today. This means averting the strike that had been slated to begin tomorrow (Monday, April 21) that would have disrupted a system that provides 1.5 million daily rides in Canada's business capital. ]]

[CDATA[Porter Airlines will once again speed the world's shrinking by opening its much anticipated Toronto-to-New York route. Beginning on March 31st, the Toronto-based carrier will offer seven daily round-trip flights to Newark International Airport (close enough). Return flights begin at $190 while one-way flights start at $120, both before taxes and fees. Do not let memories of the ill-fated Toronto-to-Rochester ferry line tarnish your excitement. ]]

[CDATA[A planned development in tony Yorkville has residents of nearby neighbourhoods up in arms. The Four Seasons in Yorkville will be moving to a new location in the heart of historic Yorkville, at the corner of Bay Street and Yorkville Avenue. The new development will see the famed chain of luxury hotels migrate eastward from its current incarnation at Bloor and Avenue Road. The existing Four Seasons will be demolished and plans to erect two, uber-tall condo skyscrapers in its place are being put forward. This is music to the ears of wealthy, midtown-loving condo dwellers. But not everyone is happy to hear about the four new towers that will stretch sky-high and steal the sunshine. ]]

[CDATA[January is the new September, or so says the bulging biceps of many a network TV exec.
[CDATA[When this little airport was built in 1939 (then known as the Port George VI Airfield) who knew that it would become the focal point of such heated dispute and, interestingly enough, come to represent such a distressing aspect of the city that we call home? The harrowing happenings at our little Island Airport can no longer be ignored.]]
