[CDATA[For those who feel that there isn't enough virtual fantasy in art these days, this is the exhibit for you. Until February 8, 2009, catch the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art's exhibition of three major <--quote#right-->video installations by Lynne Marsh: Camera Opera (2008), Stadium (2008) , and Ballroom (2004) . Lynne Marsh is one of those artists who started with some honest-to-blog internet hype and soon other hipster types began to catch on. The three works on display explore the divisions between real and the virtual/physical and fantasy. These works constitute a coherent grouping which explores the inscription of the body in strictly codified architectural environments, the feminine within theatrical and the performative spaces, and the blurred boundaries between the real and virtual, the physical and fantasy. Time is running out. This weekend is probably the last time you see her stuff before the inevitable backlash begins to build. Museum of Contemporary Art]]

[CDATA[Eric Lapointe returns to the Bell Centre for another New Year's Eve Bash. He is one of Quebec’s favourite French rock singers and this year he’s got Paul Piche, Suzie Villeneuve, Loco Locass and Jonas playing with him. It's a good crew in a big venue. The point: your chance of making out during a slow song are pretty high, and that's the entire reason for going out on New Year's Eve. If you like your French Rock, you can't do better than Lapointe. Full New Year's Eve Listings.]]

[CDATA[I knew a scrapbooker and collagist that would assemble ornate gifts for Christmases and birthdays. A rare exception to the Buy Gifts, Don't Make Them rule, everyone awaited her latest creations expectantly. Mixed-bag artist and Cinema du Parc mainstay, DJ XL5 is sort of like that; though, he has a cooler name (license plate evocation is the next trend in hip nomenclature). To close out his latest session at Montreal's finest rep cinema -- his recent run included Trashy Trailers, the Darkside of Oz, and Hellzapoppin Zappin' Party -- he looks back with a best-of night. Expect a visual mélange of clips, tunes, commercials, and sundry other curios, all evocatively juxtaposed. Tonight at Cinema du Parc. ]]

[CDATA[In December, top hats proliferate. Thanks to a Dickens classic and a black tie special occasion, bowlers, fedoras, and trilbies get dwarfed by their tall brethren. Quebecois nouveau folk heroes, Mes Aieux aren't necessarily capitalizing on the trend but they do typically know how to rock the headwear. I can't guarantee top hats at tonight's Metropolis gig yet I will promise funked up folk with traditional nods and forward-looking winks. The consortium has churned out infectious tunes since 1996, cultivating a growing following. Incidentally, it's rude to wear a tall hat in the audience. Just saying. ]]

[CDATA[Occasionally, sub-par flicks or foul weather make it difficult to convince people to head out to the cinema (remember February?). However, in late early winter the watchful eyes of a golden bald man make the task simple. Familiar comedies and big budget action flicks faded as snowdrifts began to cover crumpled leaves. Prestige pics and post-Fest(s) curios have at last hit theatres. The best time of year to be a cinephile has commenced. Here is what you should see.]]

[CDATA[Let's face it; the holidays aren't typically the greatest time of year for nightlife. It's a time to spare yourself a few days of work, spend some quality time with your loved ones, and embrace the spirit of commercialism, but not to hit the bars. Even if you are willing to brave the harsh winter, it can be hard to find any worthy events. Once December 24 comes along, Montreal seems to shut down entirely (only to reopen with a bang on December 31). Martiniboys.com is here to help you through the tough times. We've searched high and low and came up with some more than viable options to keep you busy this holiday season. ]]
