This concert/multimedia event by Puscifer, better known as Maynard James Keenan (that guy from Tool) is likely to creep the hell out of you. It seems with his Puscifer identity, Mr. Keenan is on a mission. What's the mission? The rest of the world isn't sure. "A circle is the reflection of eternity. It has no beginning and it has no end - and if you put several circles over each other, then you get a spiral." This is the kind of stuff he says.. Do we really want to know the mission?- NB

In the modern world, battles are increasingly undertaken in interesting and non-violent ways. Take, for instance, the world of DJ battling. There may be a lot of scratching - ahem - but no real fighting, just music. Four of Toronto's prominent disc jockeys engage in The Face Off on stage at the Revival.

Ryan Adams and Okkervil River's Will Sheff as songwriters. Beck's drummer. Modest Mouse's producer and sound engineer. And Tom Waits's guitarist. Hey, at least she's trying to star-stud her new album. But I still don't think anything could outshine that atrocious cover. If you want to see the conflicted mess in person, she's touring "The Fall" now.

So pianists aren't always the most popular kids on the block, (unless you're Stevie Wonder, Elton John or Billy Joel) but they're usually the most talented. Stephane Lemelin has always had the magic fingers when it comes to the piano, with his classical notes hitting both major and minor scales, giving his audience goosebumps (in a good way). Being that he hasn't done a solo show here since 1993, this should be worth the wait.

This story blurs the lines between imagination and reality. It’s a story of love, loss, noodles and trains. But the noodles and trains don’t weight in too heavily on the story. But then again the entire thing would never have happened if the noodle girl hadn’t interfered. There should be more noodle stands in Vancouver. Then, logically speaking more people would fall in love and they wouldn’t be hungry while doing it. A.C.

What's he going to talk about, I don't know. Is he going to criticize the right as he so often does? Talk about soldiers in Iraq? Recount his trials and tribulations on the road with Black Flag? Or...or...or is he going to tell us about his roles in the Jackass films? Rollins is certainly a versatile fellow, but does that really matter if he isn't good at anything at the things he does? Has he lost his steam since the Washington days? If the venue is any indication, then yes. But then again, this is a man who was a manager at a Häagen-Dazs, and then vocalist of one of music's most notorious bands...so he may just surprise us again. -D.P.

The 90's were fun. I was too young to have any responsibilities and more than half of the videos I remember on television were from Canadian bands that no longer exist. Thrush Hermit had this weird video where I think Joel Plaskett might've been in the woods walking around with a gigantic sheepskin coat on. His face would get really close to the camera a few times and it was a little scary. Well, legend has it one night in Halifax after a Joel Plaskett Emergency show, the members of Thrush Hermit reunited and now in 2010 they've planned a short tour in southern Ontario. Including an all ages show at 2:30 on the Sunday at Lee's Palace. Just so all their friends and fans from way back when can bring along the youngsters. -WB

The crowds got rowdy and cops got weary and the music just kept getting louder and faster. Plus they fit about 73 songs into an hour long set.
One day I heard this song that the band Korn had done called Y'all want a single. They wrote it because their management told them to write a smash hit for their new album and they were like 'fuck that.' So they came up with the line 'Y'all want a single? Say fuck that!' The song is 3 minutes and 17 seconds long and they say fuck 87 times. I played it for my friend one day and later she told me "I was listening to it thinking how it really sucks, and then realized that it was supposed to suck and that was the point and then it became really cool." Now that's a Korn targeted audience!

The conclusion: they’re the same song! Nickelback has made a career out of writing and recording the same song over and over, but obviously people like that song, otherwise you’d say “Nickel who?” It's only fitting, then, that these West-coast rockers will take on the ACC for a crowd full of adoring and loyal perma-song fans.
Ah, Final Fantasy. A name that to many indie scenesters has become synonymous with lush eccentric violin played through a multi-phonic loop pedal. But Final Fantasy is no more. Polaris Award winning Owen Pallett stands stripped of his former name to face the world as, well, himself. It's not as if he's giving up too much as he has usually always performed as a solo artist. If anything, with the addition of a touring guitarist, this magnificent, musical multitasker is building slightly on the formula that brought him such acclaim under his previous moniker. The intimacy of Palletts' live performances can turn even the largest theatre into a basement apartment. His newest release Heartland shares that feeling. An album with qualities too personal to be credited to any name other than his own. -WB

With their catchy tune, "Ready for the Floor," British electro pop band Hot Chip inspires head bopping and foot tapping in even the lamest of dancers. Sounding a bit like Blondie with a bit of techno, lead singer Alexis Taylor's raspy voice conveys lyrics that aren't always logical, but it doesn't matter because the beat is so good. Known for reinventing their songs live, this is one show you definitely shouldn't miss. –C.S.

The thing about Blink 182 that made them so popular was that they didn't care about a thing. They made music that was fun, easy to relate to, and they never took themselves seriously. Tom DeLonge however, seems to have catapulted himself in the opposite direction with his band Angels and Airwaves. For some reason, the lead singer has all of a sudden changed from being a young man complaining about being awkward on first dates to some random guy that's essentially calling himself the greatest to have happened to rock music. The band's concepts are skewed and far too majestic for their abilities. Honestly, DeLonge should just go back to running around naked...at least he seemed nice then. -D.P.

So you have the Jonas Brothers ruling the teeny bopper rock scene. You've got Katy Perry owning the pop-tart image. And, over in this corner you have Taylor Swift, the young country princess that came out of nowhere. You may not like any of the previous acts, but you can’t deny their hotness right now. There is something intriguing about young talent, whether it be their uncorrupted innocence, their slightly annoying banter, or just the fact they have lots of money. Taylor Swift made her way into the pop country scene by releasing a swift debut called "Tim McGraw." The country pop songstress has sold over four million copies, and according to Forbes is the 69th most powerful celebrity, with over $18 million earnings to date.

Anton Newcombe and his band of misfits return to the great white north for a stop at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. With songs as cool as theirs and a name just as hip how can you not want to see this band? Known best as being the "not so glamorous side" of rock n' roll alongside the Dandy Warhols in the 2003 documentary Dig, the Brian Jonestown Massacre have not relented in their making of music in near assembly fashion. Their latest album, Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? strays not too far from their older material, with its clever lyrics and haunting psycho-delic melodies. It's most certainly worth a listen. For those of you expecting to see theatre instead of music though it might be best to stay home. This band in comparison to how it was has cleaned up its act, well.... sorta. -WB

They're the punchline to countless frat-boy jokes, but Dave Matthews Band has a huge diehard fanbase. It doesn't matter what they play (their songs all end up sounding about the same anyways), people will show up, clap their hands, sing along, and revel in every forty minute saxophone solo, every "woo" or "yea-hah-aaaa" vocal flourish from Dave, and every superfluous jam session. In short, it's a pretty popular band. Chances are if you're part of the Dave Matthews cult, you've already got your ticket to the show at Molson Amphitheatre.

EPIC NAZARETH SONG LYRICS:

Love hurts, love scars,
Love wounds, and marks,
Any heart, not tough,
Or strong, enough
To take a lot of pain,
Take a lot of pain

Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, ooh ooh love hurts

Im young, I know,
But even so
I know a thing, or two
I learned, from you
I really learned a lot,
Really learned a lot
Love is like a flame
It burns you when its hot
Love hurts, ooh ooh love hurts

Ok, so maybe U2's latest album hasn't received the best reviews, although Sasha Frere-Jones's recent New Yorker review was more than decent. Some might argue that the front-man's (what's his name again?) political ventures have resulted in less-than-great songs. This writer would argue that maybe, just maybe, the political ventures are more important than songs. That won't make this writer less grumpy about the new tour, though. You don't need me to tell you this, but here's how this'll transpire: the show will sell out, fans will cheer for the old stuff and politely applaud the new crap, and Bono will continue to be a giant tool. By all means, go.

Can you handle even more Lady Gaga? Well, LaGa’s The Monster Ball is hitting town with Kid Cudi (who did an awesome remix called Poke Her Face) replacing Kanye as Gaga's tour partner. Her The Fame Monster hits on everything she didn’t write on The Fame, exploring “the evolution of humanity and how we begin as one thing, and we become another.” Deep. But a lot is riding on this release, with songs that address life after achieving the celebrity she so relentlessly chased, but a close listen suggest that she’s struggling to find fresh ideas. Nonetheless, Lady Gaga is on a fast track to world domination anyway. She named her first album The Fame long before she had any, selling over 4.5 million copies worldwide, which makes her eight-song follow-up all that more intriguing.

In the Bahamas a very popular side dish is Black Eyed Peas with Rice. It's hearty and filling, tastes great with lots of hot sauce and pretty much goes well with everything. But we're not in the Bahamas, we're in Canada. Here, Black Eyed Peas have no taste no matter how much hot sauce you put on them. They're bland and repetitive; some people even find they get stuck in their teeth and no matter how many forests worth of toothpicks they use they just can't seem to get them out. People have tried recipes where they mix Black Eyed Peas with everything. But that wretched gross aftertaste of the Black Eyed Peas still lingers. Even with consuming litres of acidic carbonated sugarcoated Pop that awful, teeth grinding flavour doesn't go away. Kind of like that band coming to the Air Canada Centre for two shows in July, If only I could remember their name. -WB
