The Central Park SummerStage's upcoming show will feature global rock including Algerian raï-punk, Cambodian psychedelic rock, and some head-bopping guitar melodies direct from the Lower East Side. Rachid Taha's raï, techno, rock and punk musical influences combined with his Algerian and Parisian heritage create sounds that are rarely heard in North America. Dengue Fever is an eclectic 6-member band combines Cambodian pop music and psychedelic rock. Unsure what pop music sounds like in Cambodia? Go check them out and find out for yourself. Apollo Heights have been around since 1988 but changed their name from "The Veldt" in 1996. From their skillful soundscape with driving beats and seasoned instrumentation, these New York musicians add a bit of western-world flare to the world rock showcase. – M.K.

I like the new Wu Tang disc and so does the RZA (even if other clan members don't). Enter the Wu Tang was legendary. RZA's soundtrack work is fantastic (see Kill Bill) and his acting is underrated (see American Gangster). Still, my favourite RZA-related work of all time is the Gravediggaz' perennially underestimated 6 Feet Deep.

It was the only record that I listened to during the holiday season in '94. As a result, it has become a de facto Christmas album. Thus, the RZA makes me think of Christmas. I digress: go to this Bobby Digital show. -S.T.

The PM of P-Funk, George Clinton has had a long, storied, and perpetually funky career. My favorite George moment is still his killer turn in the under-seen Jeremy Piven vehicle, PCU. Incidentally, it’s the film that introduced Jon Favreau to Alex Désert and me to Megan Ward.
This evening is meant to honour Latin music and heritage through both music and film, presented in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Grammy-award winning musician Frank “Machito” Grillo is considered one of the most influential pioneers of Latin jazz. Machito: A Latin Jazz Legacy is a documentary that showcases his journey from Cuba to the bustling New York scene in the 40's, all the way to his death while performing a show. Bragging Rights: Stickball Stories documents the game that was often referred to as "the poor man's baseball," yet flourished throughout Queens and Brooklyn among young boys pre and post-WWII. And finally Cuban vocalist Cucu Diamantes leaves her Grammy nominated band Yerba Buena for the night and sings solo, sharing her charisma with the crowd. – M.K.

I'm not going to try to deny it, twins freak me out. Ok, the Olson twins are pretty hot so I’ll give them a pass, but every other set of twins on the face of the planet freaks me out. I think it’s probably a result of that one scene in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and the Diane Arbus photo that inspired it. Twins just seem wrong to me. I always think that they are clones or one personality creepily split into two personalities. This country western duo plays extremely wholesome music that is hardly frightening and yet I’m freaked out by it. I won’t be there because I’m far too terrified. The venue is at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, NY in the Catskills and they offer accommodation as an option to be added to the price of the already expensive ticket – this means that unless you have money to dish out, you will stay were you are and this show will stay far away.

You love listening to live, cultured, music like that of the Metropolitan and New York City Opera Orchestras, but you can't afford the high society price tag. Now get in your yearly dosage of Madame Butterfly at the Washington Square Music Festival. Every Tuesday in July (except the first), performances are free! Seating is based on a first come, first served basis, so see if you can sneak out of your low life job early. –C.S.
