Augustana: 1. A bronzed Spanish female in those happy-sad, breezy, final days of summer. 2. A Roman outpost in Afghanistan 3. A MOR American rock band.
Which one will be at La Sala Rossa? Guess. -S.T.

You probably haven’t heard of Kanye West before. Apparently he’s some sort of rapper with weird sunglasses. He’s also got a gigantic ego that could solve the world’s energy crisis if it could be distilled into an oil-like liquid. His attitude is so intense that you really want to hate him, but unfortunately the music is too damn good for that to be possible. The guy can back up his bullshit. He’s got talent and ‘tude, what more do you need from a rapper? Hey, what ever happened to 50 Cent retiring if Kanye sold more albums anyways? I was so excited about that. –P.B.

Hey remember back in the day when Clapton got drunk and said that he liked Enoch Powell and didn't like that there were so many immigrants? And then when he was sober he still said that that's the way he felt? Most of the time when celebrities fumble like that they apologize and try to explain what they "really" meant. Not Clapton, he just stuck right with it. And he's stuck with his music for all of these years too. Now a true guitar legend, he's still got it.

M83 was opening for Interpol at Brixton Academy. With such a fantastic bill, the £17.50 tickets sold out faster than a reporter/tight-clad alien can orbit the earth. I was fortitudinous.

When I got off the Tube, a gruffer-than-Rhys character immediately greeted me with a less-than-salutary, “are you looking for tickets?” The savvy negotiator that I am, I responded with a clever, “maybe.” The would-be salesman – with the propriety of a fine car dealer – lead me around a corner and the bartering began.

He launched the first salvo: “£30.”
Unshaken, I returned, “£15.”
Noticeably dazed, he retorted, “£30.”
The game was getting good. I looked slyly to either side before hitting him with a stony gaze. “£20.”
He stroked his moustache pensively. “£30.” Well played.
I sensed his resolve beginning to fade. “£25,” I countered.
“£30.”
I switched tactics, flashing big, sad, Oliver-Twist Eyes. “Won’t you come down at all?”
“I’ll come down to £30.”
I’ll admit that his tricky logic hobbled my typically infallible rhetoric. Confused, I counted out three £10 notes.

A couple of weeks later, M83 played Scala for £10. They were fantastic.

Ok, maybe you don’t hear all the kids talking about them, but the British techno group have quite a few big name fans and have opened for the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Gwen Stefani. The huge disparity between those two names does a pretty good job at defining the Ladytron sound.
Get ready for phonetic butchery to begin anew: Montreal’s annual Osheaga Music and Arts Festival has announced its 2008 line-up. Here are the fest's highlights:

Your parent’s favourite post-post punk band, The Killers, headline day one, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing (provided they’re still rocking facial hair and the-Boss fetishes). For your pre-post-punk (i.e. punk) fascination, Iggy and the Stooges are also on the bill. The standout, though, is Cat Power. The last time I saw Chan and co. in Montreal, she waxed remorseful and mumbled half-coherently, but the songs remained delicate and beautiful. She wore rubber boots. I was in love, but not in a creepy way. The always fantastic Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and hometown heroes, Plants and Animals, are also on deck.

The stronger of the two days, Monday will have your ears surreptitiously sneaking off into the porta-potty for some alone time. Disregarding the light-radio headliner (Jack Johnson), the day has a surfeit of cool-kid allure. Though relegated to the penultimate slot, Broken Social Scene should be atop the marquee: a Scenester get-together is typically stirring. Speaking of collectives, the best Ukrainian gypsy cabaret art punk band in the history of Ukrainian gypsy cabaret art punk, Gogol Bordello, could steal the entire gig with its cavalcade of eastward-winking ebullience. –S.T. Full Story

Occasionally, a hole in the English language is plugged by a pop culture noun-turned-adjective. The word "Radiohead" has come to mean anything that straddles that elusive line between critical acclaim and massive popularity. However, in this case, it refers to one of the biggest bands in the world. After reshaping the record industry with the historic PWYC e-release of In Rainbows, the band has hit the road. Since they’re just giving records away they could really use your concert cash. –S.T.

Celine Dion is on the loose! Run, my friends, while you still have intact eardrums! Even those high-tolerance residents of Los Vegas have a breaking point and they’ve unshackled Dion to save themselves. The Quebecois diva has announced a continent-wide tour months in advance, so all you die-hards can make sure her shows sell out. At this point you have to wonder if she still works for her love of the craft, because we all know she doesn’t need the money. I personally think she works so hard to avoid changing Rene’s diapers at home. Leave that to the poor hired help. –J.T.

Anglophiles rejoice: Oasis finally returns. Do you remember when (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? broke and everyone was walking slowly down halls and blowing off Sallys? That was great. Noel, Liam, and those two other guys – neither of whom are named Bonehead – bring their anthemic Brit-pop to the Bell Centre. Say what you will about massive career declines, but you’ll get shivers as soon as “Wonderwall’s” acoustic strums begin. One of the most prolific jean-jacket strummers in the history of alt- country, Ryan Adams, along with his stellar back-up band, the Cardinals, opens this so- disparate- it- might- work gig. Go. –S.T.

I wanted to re-imagine Shakespearean plays with robots, ideally staging them under the stars: Robot Hamlet in the Park; Titus Roboticus; and Romeo and Juliet Electronic Boo-ga-loo. Naturally, some plot points would need alteration (i.e. Ophelia couldn’t drown, but she could rust or get electrocuted; hmmm?). Unfortunately, due to lack of interest, my dream is not going to become a reality. Though I can’t do robot plays in the park, I can do the robot while electronic music plays in the park. No, it’s not the same thing, but it is mildly compensatory.

On weekends, from now until September, Piknic Électronik will bring some of the finest blip artists in the world to a paradoxically urban and sylvan setting. Highlights include Hercules and Love Affair (June 15th), Loco Dice (July 13th), MSTRKRFT (September 1st), and Pig and Dan (September 7th); though you really can’t go wrong with exterior cords and head nodding. –S.T.

Admission is $5 - $10

There are a handful of superstar men out there who I would drop to my knees and worship if I ever found myself in their immediate vicinity. Lenny Kravitz is definitely a long-standing member to my short list. He brings sex and style to rock and roll in a way that hasn’t been done since the days of Morrison and Hendrix - minus the rampant drug abuse, that is. Not many men can pull off leather pants AND fur boas with effortless appeal the way Lenny can. Adriana and Nicole know what I’m talking about. The man is a portal of sexual prowess and musical channels. “Lenny, we love you!”

He’s on tour now, trying to start a Love Revolution. Baby, I’m in. I’m so in. How do I sign up? –J.T.

Whether in club back-rooms, in Parisian flats, or on hallowed hall stages, Broken Social Scenesters have become ubiquitous. With her latest swirl-disc, “The Reminder,” Ms. Feist has taken over the world. She’s gone from sticky-floor bars to concert theatres to arenas. You know you’ve made it when you play a venue that has a corporate name. –S.T.
