| Reader Reviews stunned! Ainsley, Toronto, October 24, 2004 Wow. stunned not the way I had intended to be, but stunned all the same. With all the hype that people produced on this bar I would have assumed to be bowled over, maybe I had built it up to much? It had the same minimalistic décor trend that has been following a lot of the new bars and restaurants on King street, but something definitely lacked. It just felt too big and too cold. There were a lot of people there, most of them desperately huddled around the bar trying to get a drink (as if it was the only thing that could sustain them through this night). The only reason I would come back here again is because of the bartenders. They were young, beautiful and having tons of fun. I ordered my classic (Kir Royale with just a quarter ounce of Cassis) and the bartender had to have filled up my glass three times, which was excellent service, but not excellent this morning. The topping off of my drink was probably the reason I had stayed so long. It was when I turned to talk to the young good ñ looking gentleman next to me, and realised that he was definitely a lot younger then I first thought, I decided to call it a night. So if you live in the area, this is an alright place to grab drinks but until the bouncer starts checking ID at the door, Iíll hold off. Loft is a keeper. vanessa, Toronto September 12, 2004 Nothing bad to report on Loft Food was so great, people were nice, location is prefect Kepp this place going people, it is a keeper, Unhappy consumer, Toronto September 21, 2004 I really don't know where to start; 1) bad music 2) bad service 3) lame crowd! Thank God Montreal is only a 45 minute plane ride away. If you are looking for a upscale, chill bar with a nice mixed crowd, this is NOT the place. Save your money. And your time. Club west is only 1 block away, and they have there act together! I recommend Loft, Veronica, Toronto August 30, 2004 The atmosphere is easy. The food is tasty. The patio is goodly. I recommend. Truly the best restaurant / bar Anonymous, Toronto, August 25, 2004 Final a place where you can truly hang out, enjoy the company of friends and ofcourse a room full of beautiful ladies! I moved back to Toronto 3 years ago and I've seen so many places to be so much without getting it. Finally a place that gets it without trying to be anything! Truly the best restaurant/bar I've seen in T.O. the patio rocks! Valerie Arciero, Toronto July 19, 2004 If you are interested in being surounded by the hippest, most down to earth crowed in TO, head to LOFT. Toronto's 21st century pub, for the chic pub crawler. The friendly and always smiling staff are casual and gacious, the food is simple and tasty, and the patio rocks! Booths on a patio, who could of ever thought. Whatever your fancy, LOFT will cater to the fussiest and gives King West something to finally brag about. Finally a really great place! Cheri, Toronto July 10, 2004 Finally a really great place west of Bathurst. I loved the decor - great taste but accessible, the crowd was hip but relaxed ... not pretentious. The food was reasonably priced ... I loved the baked ricotta and the "Loft" sauce for the potato wedges. The staff were great looking AND friendly. Wish there was more seating, but then it might not be so intimate. 905 crowd Grant, Toronto July 10, 2004 The only exciting thing about loft is your article. ! I think they brought in the 905 crowd (NYC lingo = Bridge and Tunnelers) Living in the King West area, I had a bunch of people over and thought we'd drop by for a drink. Pub like local fun? Hell no! We didn't even have a drink and left. "Extension of the local area," someone tell me where that crowd came from? I'm one local resident who won't being going back anytime soon! ...I didn't leave a tip. Christine,Toronto July 10, 2004 I went to Loft on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago to have drinks with friends. Although the place looked great and the crowd was happening, the service was horrible. The bartender who served me is obviously new to the game, because she had absolutely no clue as to what was going on. I ordered a Soho and 7, and she had no idea what I was talking about, because she asked me what was in it. It then took 15 minutes for her to make the drink and when it came time to pay, she said that I had to wait to get my change because apparently there wasn't enough in the till. The total was about $15 and change, and I gave her a twenty. Another 15 minutes later, I finally got my change. Needless to say, I didn't leave a tip. heavy energy Rachel D., Toronto, ON July 7, 2004 Good fun but a bit tooo casual - there were six of us and all were disappointed with the barroom behaviour. We all had dinner, which was great, and I still recommend going here! The quality of the food was great, and the staff was friendly. ...eighties music Janet Klassen, Toronto, ON July 3, 2004 The food reasonably priced. Make sure you try the wings. The ambiance is great fun - Not only does the chef serve up delicious food but the selection of music, which includes mixes from the eighties, makes the night. The best Stevenedelson, Toronto, ON July 3, 2004 The best place to have dinner in the King/Bathrust. Its a curious location, but as Richmond West resident, Im glad to have Loft around the corner. Blowfish is quite good too. As per Vogue and GQ from 2 seasons ago beaumonster, toronto July 2, 2004 You guys usually seem to get it right, but I am sad to say this is one of the lamest places I've seen in awhile. The place just seems so formulated....obviously put together by a group who wanted something "cool", but it seems like none of the elements work together. The location on King W sounds great, but the actual space next is a bit strip-mallish. The music is obvious, but no one seems to care too much about it. The crowd are all dressed in white (as per Vogue and GQ from 2 seasons ago) along with the clear plastic gucci/prada sunglasses worn at night (Sunglasses at night....no matter how much you want to push it, this is something that is just wanky....unless you are Lou Reed, you should give this up). The signage outside suits the strip-mall place. All in all, I won't spend 1 minute in the place, at least until it turns into the discount travel agency which is more appropriate for the setting. Sorry to be so negative, but I just wish Toronto wouldn't mess it up so badly sometimes...this kinda cash could go into some amazing places. |
