Living Well Café

Complete list

You take a bite. A piece of bacon brushes your nose and juice squirts in all directions. You pop a crisp, golden fry in your mouth. . .

You're on a mission: to eat one of the best burgers in town. You wait for hours. You shout to be heard. You drink 11 beers. You finally sit and wait some more. The only waiter in the joint takes your order. . . and then you wait. Your eyes wander about the room, and you wonder what animal could possibly fit in the abnormally small yoke hanging on the wall. Your stomach rumbles. Then it arrives: the Living Well Burger. It's an aesthetically perfect specimen, displayed on a plate that looks vaguely like a coffee filter. You take a bite. A piece of bacon brushes your nose and juice squirts in all directions. You pop a crisp, golden fry in your mouth. Time stands still. You hum, with your mouth full, to the tunes flowing out of the jukebox. Then the burger's gone, and before you're even out the door, you wonder when it'll be safe for your cholesterol-laden heart to endure the joy of another visit.

The Food
That burger accompanied with something cold on tap is where it's at, and a seat at the front is often the best in the house, offering a view of busy cooks to the left and a parade of Yonge Street traffic to the right. Besides traditional club sandwiches, and pastas, loyal customers will make the trek here for unexpected menu items like the Pad Thai, Fajitas, and the grilled chicken salad in the edible bowl. Nothing's fancy, but most items are just right.

The Vibe
I don't know what it is about Yonge Street, but in this strip, there are a few late night eateries; this being the late-night king. More casual than Seven West, but cozier than Brown Stone, Living Well has had the same store-bought look, tables and chairs and art on the walls to match for a good fifteen years. The staff have an easygoing rapport with the customers. Patio seats 40 downstairs, 30 upstairs. Continental menu and Sun brunch. Mon Dirty Girlfriend Bingo; Thu Girl's Night Off. Sun-Thu, 11:30am-1am; Fri-Sat, 11:30am-1:30am. Upstairs bar & patio open Sat-Sun, 6pm-2am..

I like the place, have drank myself into oblivion upstairs many times. But it always seems so crowded with that furniture, even when there’s no one there. Still, I always go back.

Not Impressed Toronto, ON
Felt very claustrophobic (spelling may be off) in this place. Very odd considering I've been to similarly-sized spots. I suspect it has something to do with the paint job. The colors or patterns definitely irked me...and I'm not that sensitive to sh*t like that. And, I agree with earlier review regarding the poor spacing upstairs. There is no room to walk, let along chill with friends. That furniture takes up way too much space!!
