| Johnny K: The Restaurant (1590 Queen Street East) is open. Johnny K. is back in business with this clandestine Riverdale spot. A total renovation has turned this address into another JK eatery. Look for a completely painted exterior (it looks like its under construction). Theres no sign that theres a cool spot inside - really, theres no sign. No door either. Heres a clue; follow the little arrows to the back alley. Review this place Reader Reviews take Queen E streetcar and get dinner AND a show. Tom, Toronto May 22, 2004 wife and I went on a sat. night and were ecstatic that such great food, service and setting had emigrated to the beaches... room was packed by 8 but didn't impact amazing service... seating is intimate and distributed in three main areas so never feel as if in the middle of a huge room...food was described as "upscale comfort" and didn't disappoint - highly recommend the veal shank. Diverse crowd (locals & townies, groups & families, the curious and the very hip) made for lots of people watching. Only downside - a little drafty. Can't wait to try rooftop in summer. Follow red light to side entrance. Hard to compare to downtown hotspots but a must for anyone living east of broadview. Bonus: take Queen E streetcar and get dinner AND a show. 'Lollitas sister' Priscilla, Toronto March 4, 2004 Finally a local bar that allows you to get dressed up and enjoy a night out without having to head downtown. Johnny K, has done it again!!! The location is brilliant and once again the 'home made' atmosphere is perfect. I love it as much as I did Lollitas Lust!!!!... perhaps he should have called it 'Lollitas sister'. It's an overall perfect place to go with girlfriends...or bring a date and impress him with your knowledge of the city's newest hot spots. a great time had by all melissa, toronto February 12, 2004 this place is off the beaten track, but well worth it, i visited this place on a sunday evening, it was a little bit more on the quite side, i'm sure friday and saturday are much busyier. the food was excellent, i highly recommend the tiger shrimp or the gourmet burger, and many wonderful side dishes. but make sure you save room for dessert, the flourless chocolate cake is to die for, no joke, make sure you try it. the staff was very friendly. i found the lay out a little different, theres 2 bars one downstairs where dining occurs and then one upstairs where the washrooms are, maybe the bar upstairs is for smokers?? it's kind of closed off. over all a great time had by all and i can't wait to go back. |
