sorely misstaken

i heard that this place was 'it', but i was sorely misstaken. over-priced food, over mixed beats and more attitude than any lounge in the city. skip this joint, unless all you're after is some silicone and a pricey beverage.,

Habitat
Toronto October 2003
Went to Habitat last night based on recommendations and was sorely dissapointed. In response to a disagreement over drinks, the manager tried to prove us wrong versus either assuage us or refuse. VERY childish. As for dinner, in a table of 5, 2 of the meals were good, 2 were vastly overcooked (very well done versus medium ) and one was cold (cold scallops are not appealing). They brought us new meat dishes - but with the disclaimer that we had ordered incorrectly (i.e. medium is always impossible to cut and tough). The new meals were undercooked and the accompanying vegetables were a mix of over cooked and not cooked at all. Nothing was comp'ed on the bill. The one positive in the mix was the waiter - he was very pleasant throughout. Definitely would not go back there.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!
Paul Kim, Hamilton
I had an very unfortunate experience at Habitat this past New Year's Eve. After calling in earlier in the afternoon and reserving tickets, it was to my surprise that my tickets were not reserved and they did not have any record of my reservation. I explained my situation to the doorperson and I only received the most unhospitable treatment. I will not return to Habitat and will be adamant to express my discontent with anyone who may inquire about this establishment. Furthermore, I called in on New Year's day to speak with a manager about my experience. I did leave a message to have the manager to return my call and it never was returned. I hope many potential customers to this bar will read this comment and take it into consideration. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!

what's the big deal with this place?
yet another toronto wannabe montreal spot that is unsuccessfully attempting to merge dj's, dining and drinking... and clearly, the interior design of the place was not thought out enough...booth seating scales are all wrong, and the lighting budget was sadly and clearly minute. had to deal with glaring cheap mr-16 halogens on a home depot track system in my eyes all night...and poor poor pathetic 'service' and a very weak menu offerings.

Cool thursday night-on-the-town for the ex-western crew. Good beats, friendly service, decidedly warm for an it spot. Arrive early & well turned out....

plastic smiles

I fortunately had the experience of meeting a few friends from around the continent at Habitat the week prior to their highly touted 'grand opening'. It was a hot Friday night, and we had intended to eat and head out to another venue, but stayed for drink after drink instead.
Although the service was poor at best (I think we actually waited for them to brew the Stella before serving it), and the food was not outstanding (ok, they'd only been open for 5 days or so), I thought the overall atmosphere was excellent. The staff, although confused, tried their best to be accomodating. As for the patrons, there was none of the attitude and plastic smiles than ran rampant during the 'official' opening the following week. The girls were beautiful and cool, stark contrast to the girl who was hanging off every guy asking for 'just a key' at the grand opening.

Hit it on a regular balmy Friday night, and you'll enjoy the crowd, open patio, and warm vibe. Avoid the 'parties', unless of course, you like people who think they can buy cool.

Give it a chance!

I checked out this place for the first time last night with friends (by accident) and we had a great time. Of note is the wine list, which is eclectic, as well as very reasonably priced. Generally, the drinks are really affordable here, which is rare for a place that seems to aim for the same demographic as places like Red. The waitstaff is beyond just competent; they're accomodating and friendly. The crowd's good-looking, and this place gets busy. It's a good place to chill and unwind with your friends, and you don't have to put up with a dress code...

already i’ve had enough

Habitat is not remotely Queen Street. A few cocky kids from Element open up a preppy lounge and now think they are big time. One lunch. One after work drink. And already i’ve had enough.

Minus the attitude
Jarvis, Toronto, ON
Went to the opening party last night. You know you have a winner when people are jumping the patio fence to get in (it was invite only). The place was packed with some of the most beautiful people i've ever seen in Toronto, minus the attitude.
Cool decor, great patio and music. The staff was really friendly. Will definitely have to return and try the food.

vibe cool and low key.

Poor Rick, he clearly just doesn' t get it. Queen St. desperately needed a place like this. Good looking people indeed populate this place from the servers to the patrons. Smooth house music wafts over the light blowing circulating air and keeps the vibe cool and low key. I'm ready to make this a bit of a haunt. This WILL be a hot spot for a while to come, no doubt.

Great, cool crowd

One of the greatest spots in Toronto . . . great location and incredibly sweet folk.
