Fly

Complete list

Fly Nightclub is true to its moniker. You can drink or dance; dance and drink; or watch other people drink and dance. Located off the Yonge Street madness on Gloucester, Fly Nightclub is a prime spot to get your grind on after you've been out for a few martinis. Just look for the striking marquee that simply reads "FLY" and head toward the roped-off entranceway for three floors of dance pleasure.

A gay male club, Fly uses weekly promotions to fill its dance floor, including male go-go dancers, on Saturday nights. And Saturday nights only, with the doors open til 7:00 am. As the club can contain 600, the atmosphere can range from drag-queen snotty to hyper friendly. The three-level venue is impressive (this was Toronto’s first mall 90 years ago) and the dance floor is always ready for your pretty face.

The dance floor, this spot's main attraction, is jumping with enough studio spot lights and laser beams to keep the Britney Bubble Gum crowd content. And good news: There are many zones with stellar views for people-watching, and there are areas on the three-floor complex, where the music isn't as bumping; you'll find clusters of seating for late-night (dare we say romantic?) tête-à-têtes.

There is a big revolving club-kid turnover here, so there's less focus on personal drama than club-floor energy. The Saturday party attracts a mixed bag of muscle boys, budding divas, club kid posses and the requisite smattering of tourists on the loose.

Disco, house, industrial -- you name it. If you're lucky you'll hit upon an imported-guest DJ night where you’ll be the first to hear much of what’s being pumped through . Fly has always drawn boys from its neighborhood and clubbers from all over. This a gay bar, but Fly is a dance club at heart. And dance clubs always draw dancers, no matter who they are.

Essentials, etc: There is a $10 cover before midnight, and increases after. The Subway station is right up the street at Wellesley. Cabs are plentiful. Parking in lot a mere two inches away, or on Gloucester.

Always a party

Come too early and the music isn't right. At around 12, the music starts to be excellent and you'll want to get up on the bar to dance! After 3, the music turns disco and it's time to sing along with your friends. The drinks are strong (as long as you are a decent tipper) and the crowd is never as sketchy as it looks....
