| Stuck between nightclub central and the entertainment district (read King and Peter) Eleventh Hour is a worthy destination. Its entrance dumps you into 6,500 square feet of pure dancelounge fun with fresh, shiny beats to jump up and groove to. Once inside, youll be greeted by an array of guests, from well-dressed businessmen to young industry professionals. It's exactly the crowd Eleventh Hour was angling for. It's main appeal is its warmth. Everything seems to shimmer. The color choices are coppers and ambers, the materials aim for creature comforts -- leather seats, hardwood floors, traditional elements. It still has a slickness to it, but not in an overpowering way, an MO that makes you want to bring out that expensive jacket yet once again. The space has many alcoves throughout to rest those weary feet on the vast array of lounge chairs. Meanwhile, over at the Lush-ious martini bar, things are a touch more sedate. Here, you can take a breather and enjoy one of the multitudinous cocktails they serve. The sparse main bars layout -- or lack thereof -- encourages movement and mingling, at which its beautiful customers are masters. If It Keeps The Khakis Out... The chatter of the place reminded us of high school - all the khaki-clad stooges whining about the cool people, more out of envy than anything else. Granted, there is a lot of attitude here but if you approach the studded-belted-hipsters you might find that many of them are extremely smart, witty, and very aware of the irony of their own obsession with their hair. Sure, some of them are rude but that happens in every subculture. For those who can't handle the smoke, theres always Tim Hortons. The music coming in over the speakers is a mix depending on the night: Fridays are a house/dance mix with dj James K, and Saturdays have resident dj Trevor Whyte. Thurs, Fri, Sat 9:30 - 2:00am Review This Club Great Place, Great Crowd Grace Lam, Toronto April. 22, 2002 The Eleventh is awesome! Not only is there something for everyone but the crowd of people is classy with lots of hot guys to choose from. It does take a while to get a drink tho, but the fun atmosphere is worth it. Never again... Rico M., Toronto April 21, 2002 I've been here twice and regretted it both times. Many of the other reviews complain about the frattiness, and I do agree. Typically, I don't mind that because I'm in the greek system, but not at the ballroom. Good martini selection. Hip Chick, Toronto,ON April. 20, 2002 Went to the Eleventh Hour for the first time last week, and thought it was great! Fun decor and good martini selection. My only complaint is that it's a little hard to find standing room where you don't feel awkward. But, I'll definitely be returning! |
