| A polished, Banana Republic-wearing crowd. Despite the name, you'll mostly hear deep but pumping house spun by guest DJs ranging from local up-and-comers to better known names. Saturday's, DJ Pete's program of electronica draws the sort of indie/alternative/student-oriented crowd that listens to the Chemical Brothers, DJ Icey, Fatboy Slim and the like. Long-running alternative dance club, above Lee's Palace. Deejays spin all the good stuff - old and new soul, R&B and hip-hop sounds that work well with the vibe of the room. The location (far annex) is the other mildly odd thing about the Dance Cave. It's the Canadian thing to go west, isn't it. But seriously, before Dance Cave, there was no place in the Westside (annex, or further) where club kids felt comfortable. Most of the bars there still have that '80s mentality --the door policy, the sports bar feel. The Line-up is as follows: Friday has BIFF BANG POW! 60's Retro MOD Soul Garage Rock w/ DJ's JC, Shawn, n Trevor. Saturday is Full on Alternative with Alterna Modern Rock Requests w/ DJ Pete. Manic Mondays are an early 80's Retro-Active Wave w/ DJ Shannon. Thursday sees Transmission, Music To Rock Sox w/DJ Shawn MacDonald *No Cover *Free Pool Vazaleen for the bridge and tunnel types - Lees Palace, one of the more colourful clubs in the city has adopted Vazaleen, the once a month queer party . It will be a trek for those who don't usually travel past Church and Wellesly, but a trip worthwile. And meanwhile the boys rock at the Dance Cave upstairs with Sin, the rock and roll queer night every Sunday. The setting is a simple Dance Cave upstairs and the downstairs is an underground type setting. They get a great music line up all the time and the crowd is very down to earth. No club b.s. Good drinks, good music, and good vibe. That's what draws people over and over again. {Dance; House; R&B} Reader Reviews Dark Johnny Rennick, Toronto, ON Jan. 15, 2002 Man they keep this place dark. Dont get me wrong I hate bright lights in a bar, but i tell you its so dark in there i think they go on candles alone. Pretty chill place, Cheap beer, but some "downtown" types might get sketched by they fact that its not in the club neighborhood. |
