Quantum of Solace Trailer: New Bond Trailer Premieres Online

There was never any doubt that James Bond would return after Casino Royale (that movie made way too much money to end the franchise). How he would return remained a mystery. The last film did such a wonderful job of reinventing the franchise that fans wondered if any sequel could possibly live up to the reinvention. Fortunately, this freshly released trailer should silence the doubters and get the fanboys pulses pumping. Bond's back baby and by the look of things, this time it's personal.

After the advent of Jason Bourne, James Bond was starting to feel a little tired. Sure, we all love seeing an unnaturally cool British secret agent driving the world’s most beautiful sports cars and women, but 20 films into the series, the whole thing was getting boring. Suddenly a new spy franchise appeared that was driven by gritty realism rather than slick escapism. The insanely wealthy producers behind the Bond franchise knew that they would need to reinvent there superspy if they wanted to compete with Bourne and continue to milk their cash cow.

The result was Casino Royale, easily the best and most successful Bond film in years. Bond was shown as a plucky amateur earning his stripes. No longer invincible, the man actually struggled against his opponents and even seemed poised to fail. The screenplay by Oscar winner (and former Walker: Texas Ranger head writer) Paul Haggis was filled with in-jokes and inversions of the classic Bond formula, which added a level of self-consciousness that had never been part of the franchise before. Even the new lead actor Daniel Craig brought a level of gravitas to the role that superseded any ironic winks to the camera. The fans responded to the new direction and the film earned $594 million worldwide.
