hen one refers to Swedish design, thoughts turn to frustrated afternoons putting together (or not) cheap furniture, often ending in tears and breakups. This is an unfortunate image for a country that actually has a lot to offer design wise.
Take Playsam toys for example; the company has been around for 25 years, with dozens of design awards to their name. Recently only available in a limited range to Canadians, national distributor Poogofki Group now carries the entire line on their website,
www.poogofki.com. Expect the goods in stores soon; retailers are lining up to carry Playsam's uber sleek line.
I have never understood why middle aged execs would have toys on their desk. That’s not to say it's no fun being an adult, but it somehow seemed inappropriate for a seven figure salaried individual. Yet looking at the Playsam's unobtrusive toys, it makes sense to purchase a piece of the line simply as a beautiful thing to look at. The Streamliner Cab, for example, looks as if each piece is floating on top or within each other, as opposed to any visible connecting edges. And as one, very adult, member of the MBO team suggested, the visible smoothness of this toy translates into the ride, with a good turning radius.
