ollywood isn’t just one of the most financially powerful and successful industries of film production in the world, it’s also the global leader in unnecessary sequels and remakes. Why come up with an original idea when you can just recycle something that was already successful instead? You can always depend on some absurd and unnecessary projects emerging from the major studios and today a few more have been put into motion.
Michael Moore Is Working On Fahrenheit 9/11 Part 2
There have been many inappropriate sequels announced recently, but none sound more redundant and unnecessary than . Just to clarify things, I’m not one of those Moore haters who immediately denounces the director for being manipulative (all documentary filmmakers are manipulative, it comes with the territory). In fact, I’m a Moore fan and even enjoy the polarizing
Fahrenheit 9/11, my problem with this new movie movie is simply that it seems unnecessary. When the original doc was released, Moore intended it to be an indictment of a disliked president that would ideally prevent his re-election. At this point, George Bush is loathed by so many and mocked so frequently that it seems unnecessary for Moore to dive back into the well. What else could be said to damage Bush’s reputation and more importantly, with a slated 2009 release date, the film will hit screens after the president has already left office, so what impact could the movie possibly have politically?
That said,
Fahrenheit 9/11 did unearth a great deal of information and footage that had never been seen before, so perhaps Moore has material available that will surprise even the most obsessive Bush-bashers. There’s no denying that George Bush was a terrible president who deserves to be criticism, but is it really valuable to do that any more? Moore’s talents at unearthing uncomfortable truths are still valid, but at this point he should be focusing on new issues that are contemporary and relevant. Perhaps the movie will be a pleasant surprise, but at this point it seems like an unfortunate step backwards for the world’s only bockbuster documentary filmmaker.
