C learly it's time that Cochrane had at least one Thai restaurant. The poor area dwellers have been chomping at the bit for a South Asian bite. Luckily their time has come with the opening of Thai Orchid. Without a hint of marketing and pre-liquor license even, hungry crowds have been lining up around the block, salivating just thinking about the grub they’re about to enjoy.
The forward thinking owners - Sandy Chanthaseng and Kaysone Sananikone - ventured to fill the wide-open niche to a rather unexpected response. The two had been angling on a quiet opening, just to get all the kinks worked out before they started to get any kind of regular clientele. But Pad Thai-deprived locals ransacked the place like Amy Winehouse out of rehab. The onslaught was so unexpected that they have had to shut down the take-out component temporarily until they get their nightly line-up under control.

1There are way too many Chinese restaurants in Calgary and, trouble is, a lot of them serve up really bad food. Of course, there are some that serve really, really bad food reserved for our tourists friends who don't know any better, but Thai Orchid, a new Thai outpost, is usually a pretty good bet for Thai comfort food. Worth the trek. posted by Jane Mooking 191 days ago | |
