Republik, a 14 000 square foot, expensively made, unbearably faddish nightclub that will strike joy into the hearts of all those that revere nightlife in large proportions. Divided into three rooms with dedicated sound and lighting systems, Republik will lure young-ish clubbers in droves.
The main room is the largest, followed by the Vision Room and then a very large DSR (Designated Smoking Room) that can be integrated with a VIP area. The club is a labour of puppy love by Bennett C. Lo, of design firm Dialogue 38, whose work shuttles between stylish low-rent romanticism (Indochine) and fun, childlike exuberance (Spring Rolls). Known for illuminating walls, Lo wanted to create an experience that comes alive and follows you throughout the club. “We have a very strong language of what we do, says Lo. “It is simple design with advanced-technology.”

the most amazing lights and sound in the city too!!! reminds me of VEGAS!!! VIVA REPUBLIK!!!!! posted by steven 524 days ago 3This club is awful. We got a limo for a birthday party and the limo was almost 2 hours late in picking us up. by the time we go to the club, the bouncers made such a huge deal about letting us in and then told us we had to pay cover, even though that was supposed to be included in our limo price. after tons of hassling and major attitude from a bunch of asshole bouncers, we finally got into the club without paying cover. the club and music were awful and stuffy, and the snobby bartenders were complete bitches. we were told we couldn't go upstairs cause we weren't VIP, then when we went to have a smoke outside and get some air, they woudln't let us back in, even though it was my brithday. Worst club ever. Only go here if you're a pretentious bitch looking for a horrible night. posted by Shelly 524 days ago 4Worse club ever!! Thanks for the good times. posted by justin 336 days ago 6Recently went on a Sat and had a killer time! The new bottle service booths are huge and the staff is sexy! The line to get into the club moved quickly and my guestlist request from the promoters was honoured. I've never seen so many sexy Asian ladies in one club at one time! Definitely dress sexy and chic because this is the place to see and be ssen! The music was good to with some bangin hip hop and rnb. Sat @ Republik is going to be my home for a long-time. posted by Albert 334 days ago 7I have been to Republik on two seperate occasions, and each time I vowed never to set foot in that place again. Republik is by far THE WORST club in Toronto, and quite possibly the entire world. The first time I went there we were on guestlist, provided we got inside before a certain time (I cant remember exactly what that time was). The guestlist line was huge and did not move at all until after that time had passed, when, miraculously, they let everybody in. Once inside they set fireworks off inside the packed room, forcing me to escape via a side door in order to avoid asphyxiation. The crowd was awful, and the entire vibe was tacky. The second time I went was for a friends birthday, or else I wouldnt have gone back at all. We got there early, around 10:30, and they made us wait outside in the freezing cold for over an hour before they let us in. The kicker was THE CLUB WAS EMPTY! There were like five people inside! They were trying to create the illusion of a lineup in order to make it seem like the place is more popular than it is. It was sad, really, and so pathetic. The place absolutely sucked, the crowd was terrible and nobody had a good time.
My advice? Do not, under any circumstances, go to Republik. I would rather get a root canal than set foot in that place again. At least after a root canal they give you painkillers. Republik should be offering Percoset at the door to dull the painful night you are about to experience. posted by Amy 145 days ago 8Jim Beam from Toronto []

In over 10 years of clubbing, Republik is the only place were I've witnessed one security staff member, have to toss ANOTHER security staff member out of the establishment. The two were involved in what seemed like a heated arguement over something. The younger, more stalky of the two marched off right through the dancefloor in a fit of rage, shoved one of the patrons out of his way, then suddenly turned and lunged at him for no reason (Can you say "'roid rage"?). If it wasn't for the quick intervention of the taller, senoir staff member (Whomever this gentleman was, I hope they gave him a HUGE raise in pay for avoiding a potential lawsuit), the innocent patron would have got his ass kicked for no good reason. I had another security staff tell me I wasn't allowed in the club, unless I kept my jacket on over my T-shirt (I guess he finds generic tattoos intimidating?). Even the coatcheck woman looked at him with a "WTF is your problem?" expresson on her face. Odd, considering the guy is almost 7 feet tall. I guess he spooks easily.
Kudos to all the door, bar, and even washroom staff. They are all polite and personable. The washrooms were very clean, and I never had to wait for more than a minute or two at the bar. However, I don't think all that makes up for some of the "short-dicks" watching over the place (With some exceptions, of course. They weren't all inept or hostile). It's one thing to have to worry about a drunk stranger going off his rocker. But security as well? No thanks. I'll pass. posted by Jim Beam 77 days ago | |
