You think you’re Mod as hell, and nobody appreciates your high-stylin’ ways. But where to display those slick threads that make you look like you’re fresh out of a Miramax '70s-retro flick? Anyone can score appropriately outrageous duds at a vintage store, or blow a wad on a three button suit at Holt’s, but c’mon now, it’s really the whole package you’re after, isn’t it?
That very package could include dropping in for cocktails and photo ops at The Mod Theatre Club, the latest theme bar for Brit-Pop-style chilling. At Mark Holme’s shrine to Britpop, at College & Crawford, you can go around the globe and experience a radically different scene.

1wow...I was plannig on taking 12 people to Mod club on Sat night...but after this I am having second thoughts...maybe we should take our money somewhere else. posted by xoxo 560 days ago 2I am not sure why so much bitching about $15 cover. Any dance club these days takes up to $20 cover. Even 4 years ago when I used to go clubbing every weekend that was the cover we had to pay. Dance clubs are not cheap and most of the times music sucks big time. So if someone doesn't want to pay cover then dance clubs shouldn't be on your list. When it comes to bartenders at the Mod I agree their service is very slow, they're all over the place, and there is no dress code. All in all I saw worse then Mod Club. I will so go there this Saturday to dance:-) posted by miss t 560 days ago 3I've been going to the Mod Club since it first started when it was pure 60's.. I've seen them expand to Saturday nights at Rivival and then finally having a home at the current Mod Club Theatre.
I've taken friends visiting from Japan, England, and from all over. And every time, i get the same reaction. They LOVE it!
Saturday Nights are the nights to go!
The Current Atmosphere is fun, energetic and un-pretentious. It's Overall a great vibe.
The trick is, go early and beat the queue! (yes, like all clubs, there are queues) catch the opening act (always great way to check out new and upcoming local bands). what ever time you do get there.. be sure to get in by 1230 for "the Show".
For drinks.. Trick is, go to the smaller bars.. the corner bar by the entrance or the upstairs Orange Room bar, queues there are shorter.
Music is Brilliant !
Mark Holmes is a great performer, he knows how to pump the crowd up! but my favourite DJ is Bobbi Guy. He knows his stuff! Always new, always good, a Class Act. A true MODest Guy. If you're not a twat and have actually had the chance to speak with him, you'll see what a class act he truly is. I've lived in England and was very much into the music scene there and believe me .. DJ Bobbi Guy KNOWS his music !
Of course there are other Mod-like/brit-night clubs but I've have always been unsatisfied, they always seem ... pretentious. and their sound system is aweful.. Mod Club Sound system is Awesome! and lighting is a show in itself!
I love Mod Club
Be nice to the people who work there, they're giving up their Saturday Nights for you. Go there to have a good time, and leave your ego at the door. posted by Miki Isako 83 days ago | |
