    Supermarket

As in most neighbourhoods on the cusp, original residents and scenesters rarely meet. You won't find an old-timer inside a shiny new bar and you won't find a hipster in a neighbourhood joint. At first glance, Supermarket looks like yet another Kensington Market spot aimed at the effortlessly entertained crowd. It could easily be lumped in among the Embassy, The Last Temptation, La Palette and other character bars inhabited by rancorous art-student types and sedate locals out to off those who done 'em wrong.
Once known for its broken furniture, sticky floor, and pool tables, 268 Augusta is now home to one of the best bar relocations in recent history. Supermarket came to this address when the owners of the much-loved Lava lost that location to unstoppable condo development. Now that the bar has moved three blocks up the street, it seems to have a new lease on life. Same staff, same regulars, only now there's more room and, thank god, food. There are also three diversely appealing areas: a glassed-in front lounge area, a main drinking and dining area (with the familiar banquettes from Lava); and, as the final crowning touch, out front a patio awaits that - when that time rolls around - holds the promise of sidewalk parties galore.

Movement parties never disappoint... that is unless you show up at 1am and are not in the mood to pay $10 cover for an hour of funk. BUT... before 11pm it's a manageable $5 and you WILL bust a move like no other. Do say reasonably sober in order to navigate a dancefloor of tables/chairs (???) and the overzealous PDA loving couples.

Worth the wait. On several occassions I had tried sameday weekend reservations with no luck so this time i decided to get one earlier in the week. Called back promptly letting me know that a table will be reserved for our party Friday. Unlike other reviewers the service was good. Didnt do anything extraordinary but didnt have to as he wa attentive and quick with drinks and suggestions. Food came out very quickly...all dishes...and were very tasty. Our menu was typical, try many items and none disappointed. Only issues would be that you dont realize how tapas type dishes add up so that was a bit of surprise but shouldn't have been (we all did leave full), and the bathrooms were absolutely freezing so you didnt want to take much time in there.
Music on Friday night very cool and as the drink crowd fills up the place it makes for a great night.
    Thank you Supermarket

If you're willing to wait an hour for your food, then it's pretty tasty. We went as a party of 10 with reservations, however, as a group you have to order from a share/tapas menu. If you prefer to order an individual dish you will have to sit there and watch everyone else chow down as they're left with no choice but to start eating or to wait an hour for your food to arrive. The music is nothing special and the crowd can be strangely awkward at best. The drinks are regularly priced. I've been here a few times because of other birthdays and have been unsuccessful in deterring each new friend. All and all, an over-rated place that is convenient for those who live in the area with nothing better to do.
