I don't care if you hate it or love it, you will talk about the Drake in a decade; you will remember it in your drool-and-forget era. Like no other bar, the Drake elicits visceral responses from Torontonians. Though the weekend crowd has grown increasingly 905-heavy, weeknight clientele and diners still tend toward the Stober-era quasi-locals. With one of the best roof-top patios in the city, and an underground space that houses avant/indie nights and acts, the Drake is versatile, imposing, and influential. [...]

1This review is based on more than one visit and second and third chances have been used up. Though nicely renovated, The Drake is probably the most pretentious, wannabe artsy lounge in the thriving "Liberty Village" area. Service can be great IF you are European. Otherwise expect to be served last and go to the downstairs washroom while other "white" patrons are favoured. That is a critique of most of its staff (not all) although previous experiences would suggest otherwise. On the up side, the atmosphere is contemporary and chic and thankfully not all their patrons are like their staff. posted by Amy 112 days ago | |
