After a press embargo and its fair share of bureaucratic problems, New York’s hardest door, dubbed 1 Oak, has opened - to those, ahem, who have been deemed worthy of entrance. The boys behind 1 Oak - Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano (who own Butter) - have apparently grown tired of New York’s repetitive club scene and are intent on creating a refined environment for the hippest urban influencers in the city. After all, those insipid, martini-swilling Manhattanites really do get to you after a while.
The West Chelsea area is all about the atmosphere. And, as with any impossible-to-enter spot, 1 Oak has atmosphere aplenty. Though the exterior is refreshingly free of inappropriate designer cant, 1 Oak’s interior (designed with leaden proficiency) embraces the noir angularity of patterns ripped out of a castle in the South of France.

1Well I dont really know how to use their ratings from one to four since theyre kind of off for a club, but if you get a chance to go to one oak it's worth the try. Beware of doorbitch Ben... seems doormen are unable to evolve with the rest of us, but that's why they keep them outside haha. Anyway, the club is definitely up to snuff with the hype (at least aesthetically), but it's fairly large inside for the crowd it's trying to attract. It's like butter on steroids with a mix of the B8, pink (on any night but wednesday, ick), and upstairs crowd. If you frequent these places you probably wont have any problems... if you have no idea what I'm talking about then I think it's safe to say youre not likely to get in. I have a feeling it will pick up in the next little while now that kiss and fly is open around the corner and with tenjune boring the nightlife set to death! It's not flashy or cheesy so dont try to designer whore yourself in like at marquee or plumm just expect the usual bottles and models sans promoter types. Jayz and kanye were there last night but in 1 oak fashion... no one cares... if this sounds like something you would say then youre in.
just make sure youre beautiful or connected because this place is catering to the "in" crowd NOT the "buy-your-way-in" crowd.
Good luck! posted by Carley 317 days ago 2Overrated. Way too much attitude. Bathrooms smell like fresh vomit. Guys at the doors are ridiculously obnoxious posers.
I'd a huge clubber but I'd rather sit at home and read a book.
