A n identity crisis of a café, Avenue A's slick and clean Rapture has absolutely nothing to do with flying carpenters. It does have to do with paper-cuts, bean-drinks - don't worry greenies, they're fair trade - laptop scribblers, art, performance, and internet mooching - all of which are markedly better than anti-secularism.
Joe Birdsong's nascent East Village joint, and its tiny stage, boasts a solid rotation of events, from the weekly, gay-themed "Reading for Filth" series to various musical acts, a spiced up, drag-tinged bingo, film screenings, and myriad performance shows. Each month also sees a new gallery installation, highlighting local talent.
