W hen Versace’s Driveway opened last year on College Street, many people had little faith in its chances for survival, pointing to its sad attempt at being suave and hedonistic, it's overbearing name and undefined focus. With the area's little pockets of gentrification, the short-lived venue – which despite a great location, attracted little attention - didn't have much in common with its College Street brethren. But the closure of the bar has brought two uptown interlopers to the scene.
With a rocky start and humble aspirations, first-time restaurateurs Bill Sweete and Casey Bee have taken over the abandoned spot for their own definition of the space. Now dubbed Sidecar, the handsome room is all brick and beam aesthetics, highlighted by little dots of candlelight. With a long and narrow dining area that spills out onto a gated front (come summertime), the more refined layout seems closer to the area's new sensibilities.

1Perfect little age-old cocktails to finish off a lazy Tuesday evening. If you haven't had a Sidecar (at Sidecar) it is delish. Ummm, I'm SOLD! posted by Amy Schwartzberg 260 days ago 2Peeps,
It's all about the Tuesdays, GO ON Tuesdays! Best value in the city for the food you get. Both Bill and Casey are superb as chef and host.

The service is the type that you would find in a much higher priced restaurant. Friendly, exact and unassuming.
This is the perfect place for a first date or a regular date night.
Excellent value for you money. posted by Rhonda 258 days ago 4Great little spot for some good small-plate fare. They also have little patio out front, come summer. posted by Amy chung 227 days ago 5It's high time this space was properly utilized. I have been twice now, and, while not the poshest of places, Sidecar pushes out surprisingly good fare. posted by Darren Edmonds 226 days ago 6Great little hidden gem. Popped by on the weekend, and, although the diners were a little obnoxious, the fare was great. Good drinks too. posted by Sarah Lyall 207 days ago 7Great food, great service, great ambiance... a little unpretentious gem in pretentious area. posted by Darren Grate 173 days ago 8The atmosphere felt really quiet, even though there were people there. We felt like we had to speak really quietly. Not their fault, just the way it is I suppose. The only real problem we had was the service: our server was over eager to pour our wine (above and beyond the mark) and take away our wine bottle. We felt like we were being rushed out of there. At one point, we were wondering if they were closing up soon (reason for feeling rushed). They weren't. We were out of there within 40 mins. Didn't even feel like finishing our wine. posted by Kat 168 days ago 9This place had a great ambiance and fantastic service. We had to wait for our table and our first drinks ended up complimentary of the house....very classy! The food was great and not over salted like many restaurants in that area! We highly recommend Sidecar if you want a really nice night out with friends or loved ones! posted by Michael and Alexis 104 days ago | |
