    Mercury Organic Espresso Bar

If plans to plop a Wallmart down smack dab in the middle of Leslieville get the go ahead, the face of East Queen East is going to look a whole lot different in the not-too-distant future. For now, citizens can rest assured that what they have going on is indeed a good thing. Still in its relative infancy, Mercury Organic Espresso Bar (circa 2006) was opened by a Matthew Taylor and a group of friends. With a winged goat as their mascot, Mercury serves up homemade baked goods accompanied by coffee, lattes and cappuccinos (the latter come with cool designs in the foam). Mercury is definitely on par with other Queen East coffee mainstays Dark Horse and Red Rocket

Organic, fair-trade coffee, biodegradable take-away cups and a staff that is seriously into recycling and composting, Mercury is a quaint little place where you’ll find the likes of Bob Dylan, the Stones, Johnny Cash and Modest Mouse on the radio at any given time. Sunday nights offer live local music while Friday's offer a cornucopia of rock n' roll vinyl.

The espresso was very delicious, with a few pleasant surprises. I felt it had the right balance of acidity and smokiness. After talking to the owner, I found that they used beans roasted lighter than usual, and were able to produce a very nice sweetness to the espresso, even to the last drop.

The staff at this coffee shop are arrogant and very diva which is fine if you like BAD attitute. They truly need an emergency course on customer service and to know the difference between listening to a rational customer's request and in turn calling the customer rude. Rude is when someone has insulted someone or used foul language. The order taker is a ---- and now I'm being rude. Never lecture a customer regarding their obligations to society regarding taxes. If you can imagine going to coffee shop to hear this garbage. I can buy a $5 coffee anywhere and I don't need to see or hear these saucy divas ever again. If their building comes up for sale I'm going to buy it and toss them out on their asses.
