DS2 Turtleneck
By Scott Tavener
inter means layers and, like pyramid blocks, each one should be solid; more importantly, they must all effuse sartorial aptitude. A well-cut jacket and complimentary scarf are imperative; once you have those, turn your attention to what goes under them. You don't want to take off your cooler-than-Dylan coat to reveal a tired button-up or - gasp - a Sunday hoodie.
While a Christmas sweater is reliable and perseverant - and, thanks to Ryan Gosling, increasingly haute - a well-knit wool turtleneck is timeless and essential. If your wardrobe is in need of one, you must remedy the situation immediately; though, don't just run to H&M - that Swedish saint of budget finds - and grab a faux-wool one-night-stand pullover. A knit sweater is an investment in the future, so find one that won't crumble after a season at the chalet.
Look no further than the Caten brothers' mighty DSquared2 label. For over a decade, the Milan-based Canadian twin tandem has churned out fine menswear. A favourite of Madge and other clothing-conscious celebrities, DS2 is more than a futuristic acronym. Its Wool Knit Turtleneck will stand the test of fashion time (which moves more rapidly than dog years). At $525, it isn't cheap, but quality costs. Big, cuddly, and hot-chocolate-sojourn ready, it's perfect for autumnal leave watching, Egg Nog sipping, and après ski schmoozing. Also, you can pull it on to run down to the café or wander the market. Big-necked sheep are waiting for you. -S.T. | DS2 Turtleneck
