There are bad movies that are merely annoying and then there are terrible movies so misconceived that all you can do is marvel at the fact that they made it to the screen at all. Repo Men is one of these movies. There’s enough material within Repo Men for a decent 20 minute short film. Unfortunately once those 20 minutes are up the plot continues for another excruciating hour and a half that gets increasingly ridiculous to the point that the only possible audience reaction is laughter. There’s a chance that the entire film is intended to be a parody of overwrought sci-fi blockbusters, but I doubt it. The first act of the movie plays as a dark comedy with Law and his partner (Forrest Whitaker) tracking down sorry people behind on their payments and graphically tearing out their organs. It’s a joke stolen from the “live organ donor” sketch in Monty Python’s The Meaning Of Life, but a funny one that works for a while.
