 ith the Canada line build-out in full swing, Yaletown’s Mainland Street has been under construction for awhile. And now the construction has moved from the street inside as the team behind the area’s newest restaurant development brings out the hammer and nails. If all goes well we will soon we will have r.tl, short for regional tasting lounge. Its door is at 1130 Mainland, just down from Goldfish Pacific.
r. tl will feature small plates with regional themes. There will always be a BC coastal theme and Chef Erik Smith will rotate another two themes from various geographical points, with about five dishes from each region and some chef’s daily specials.
Sommelier Alain Canuel is looking forward to his state of the art wine system that will allow him to preserve the restaurant’s open wine longer, allowing him to list 30 reds and whites by the glass. The wine program will follow the same regional theme that the chef’s cuisine focuses on and will be available in smaller tasting glasses and flights. Non-wine drinkers can look forward to an innovative cocktail program.
The room has 50 seats with bar seating and moveable banquettes. r.tl will open early fall, 2008. -C.A.
