Location: 3689 West Fourth Avenue, Vancouver, BC
hen you’ve done time in some of the city’s best restaurants, you’ve have had to come to the table with some skill and probably learned a thing or two along the way. Thus when Lucais Syme and Adam Pegg, former chefs at the amazing Parkside and La Buca, announced a joint restaurant venture, Vancouverites knew they had something to look forward to.
Symes and Pegg are building La Quercia, the Italian word for a type of oak tree known for its strength and ability to survive. With these two in the kitchen, the restaurant is sure to follow its name.
Located at 3689 West Fourth Avenue near Alma, La Quercia will be a 35 seat Italian Trattoria with food mainly from northern Italy. There’ll be an open kitchen where diners can peer into the food prep area and watch their meals evolve. Now that’s real entertainment.
Open for a casual lunch and then a more former dinner service, Syme and Pegg promise a menu of simply presented food at a price point that’s affordable. They’ll be lots of fresh pasta for noodle lovers, and a fresh board to reflect what’s available in the market each day.
Look forward to a mainly Italian Wine list with some top BC picks, and a good selection of grappa, beer and scotch. No one’s muddling drinks here. Instead the cocktails will be more classic, but Vancouver knows where to go for the cocktail scene.
The pair is hoping for a soft opening towards the end of June followed by an official July opening. There’s lots of work to do before the doors open, but I’ve seen construction underway, so they’ve obviously got the permits. I look forward to another Westside dining destination from chefs who’ve got some pretty awesome techniques.
