Location: Canada Place Way and Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC

Two Vancouver developers, Westbank Projects and Peterson Investment Group, are slated to build the 47-storey Fairmont Pacific Rim on what was previously railway land at the Coal Harbour waterfront. Construction on the Fairmont Pacific Rim is now well underway. The opening lines of an original poem by British poet Liam Gillick that will wrap around the exterior of the building all the way up to the 23rd floor have already been spotted. They read: "Lying on top of a building… the clouds looked no nearer".

When completed, the Fairmont Pacific Rim offer 415 hotel rooms on 18 floors (lower) and 175 apartments on 26 floors (upper). Westbank and Peterson Group will team with James K.M. Cheng Architects for the entire design. The project cost is estimated to be $350 million. Westbank and Peterson are currently developing the Living Shangri-La tower. Construction is expected to be complete in the middle of 2009, conveniently in time for the Summer Olympics. It is expected to offer tourists and residents alike one of the best views of Vancouver available. - R.T.
