Location: 801 Pacific St, Vancouver, BC V6Z

After Tony Romas (801 Pacific) closed its doors, the space stayed empty for some time. A recent drive-by showed that two large gold lions were now guarding the front door and ventured inside for a peak at what is to be Pan2 Fusion Grill. The Grill is scheduled to open November 28 and will feature dishes from China, Japan and Korea. The menu sounds more like a mixture of these countries dishes, rather than a fusion of these cuisines, which seems to be the case also at the company’s other restaurant Kentizen in Tinseltown. Peking duck, Mongolian beef and Kung Pao are specialties of Chef Fred Lau who will head up the kitchen.

The room is off to a good start with its fancy gold floor, wood beams, and spatters of orange, yellow and gold around the room. There’s a lounge section with a warming fireplace, and a private dining area upstairs that seats fifty. The tables are topped with Chinese symbols for luck and happiness and the glowing lanterns brighten the darkened room. But this is a tough location. We recently saw the next door Infinity Dining Room close its doors, only to be replaced with a sushi spot that appears largely vacant. But here they are and they’ve got some big plans. Apparently the wine list will have an ambitious 750 bottles. Hope they’ve got some financing lined up, as these are not the most forgiving of times. - CA
