he French and the Germans may not have always been drinking buddies, but at the soon-to-open La Brasserie (1091 Davie Street), they will have a chance to seriously work on their relationship. The still-under-construction restaurant will feature French and German cuisine, along with wines, beer and liqueurs from said regions. Think comfort foods - such as mussels frites and coq a vin, alongside veal schnitzel with spatzle. Or perhaps you might want to start with fresh oysters and a glass of champagne, or show up for a pint on what will be dubbed "suckling pig Thursdays".
The restaurant is aiming to open early October. The boys are carving this project out of what was once a fish & chip shop and then a Persian restaurant, but from the progress we're seeing, we will soon have decent dining grounds in an area previously known for msg-ladened Greek food.
The project is guided by Ed Perrow, who we know so well from Bin 941 and Bin 942. Perrow has partnered with brothers Stephen and Michael Wiese, who are both chefs. The former is coming from Bins while the latter has recently been at Bentleys in London. Will the brotherly love be tested as the kitchen heats up?
