Location: 505 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC
know, I know. We’ve heard this before: A real wine bar for Vancouver. We flock to the new spot, only to find about a dozen wines by the glass - most of which can be found on liquor store shelves for a third the price. Well, we're hearing it again - The Wine Room under construction in the Bentall One building - but will this one be the real deal?
Sure sounds like it. This seventy-seat Wine Room is a project is in the competent hands of Keith Nicholson, who recently came down from Whistler’s Bearfoot Bistro. Nicholson ran a stellar wine program there, and I have no doubt he has the skill to bring Vancouver the wines we’ve been craving. Oh – and he’s backed by some deep (let’s namedrop Joey here) pockets.
The menu is angled to be tapas-based with about fifteen different simple plates, such as flatbreads and bruschetta. But The Wine Bar will really be all about, well, you guessed it, wine. Nicholson plans to have a whopping fifty varietals by-the-glass alone. They’ll be kept fresh with five Enoteca machines. Good thing he’s got some buying power to source these.
Vancouver just may finally be getting the kind of place that we’ve been craving. But, I know... we've heard it before. - CA
