As we enter the dog days of winter it can get harder and harder to venture out of the hous. The weather only gets worse before it gets better and with the holiday season long past, snow no longer evokes images of a winter wonderland. Now each snowfall feels like an inconvenience. Slips on the ice become a literal pain in the ass rather than an annual slapstick comedy novelty. And the street salt buildup wreaks havoc on cars and shoes everywhere. It’s enough to turn anyone into a hermit. Fortunately Vancouver restaurants have foreseen this eventuality and have been kind enough to provide local residents with a reason to venture outside (it has to be a public service and not a deliberate attempt to court extra business…right?).
Dine Out Vancouver is returning for its sixth year (Jan 16 - Feb. 3). For the unenlightened this is a special time when 180 local eateries offer a special prix fix menu, with meals available for prices as low as $15, $25, and $35 per person. It’s the perfect opportunity to sample a few unknown restaurants without having to mortgage your house to afford the experience. Your new favourite dining spot is out there right now waiting to be discovered, as are a vast amount of overrated restaurants that you mock and disregard. So grab your special someone and take them out for a night of wining and dining and bargain prices. As the great Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant once wrote, there’s nothing better than a date that is both romantic and thrifty.
