ll Hallows Eve is getting close; whether or not you believe in ghosts, you simply must get out this week and check out both new and old haunts else risk missing all the freaky action. Do you really want to sit at home and hand out candy?
If, in your ideal version of trick-or-treat, you receive a mickey of vodka in your loot bag, then you might want to visit
Zin Restaurant and Lounge. Until October 31st Zin is raising money for UNICEF by donating $1 from the sale of every Trick-Or-Treat Martini. Bonus? They're all candy-themed. Try a Caramel Candied Apple with, um, apple and caramel toffee liqueur or a Bazooka Joe with blue curacao, banana liqueur and Baileys. Hit Zin on the right night and you may also find some eye candy (it's harder to chew, but more rewarding).
For those revellers looking for a respite from sheets and plastic, try celebrating Latino-style, with The Day of the Dead. At Gastown's
Cobre (52 Powell Street) departed souls will return to earth and they don't mind if you join in the party. Just come in costume after 8:00pm and bring $10 so as not to upset the spirits.

If Halloween just isn't your thing, there’s plenty of other action to be had. Steak fans can always head to
Morton’s for a carnivorous fix. Until November 18th surf and turf for two can be had for $119. Sounds pricey, but your plates will be stacked with filets, a choice of crab cakes, scallops or shrimp, vegetables, potato and a dessert (dessert on a separate plate). You can make up for the splurge by hitting Morton’s first Thursday club. November 1st (and every first-Thursday of the month) free mini-steak burgers and wine samples get doled out. And, last time I checked, free was pretty damn cheap.
