Spacious new gallery opens on Granville Street
here are heaps of work involved in the transformation of a old antique store to a state-of-the-art gallery and nobody knows this better than architect Michel Laflamme who recently converted the former Shaughnessy Antiques headquarters into the spacious home of the Winsor Gallery. Opened on June 14, the gallery (formerly a modest gallery on Howe Street) has welcomed a plethora of art enthusiasts eager to view its collection of works by contemporary western Canadian artists, both emerging and established. Dedicated to art that is distinctly contemporary, the gallery regularly exhibits the work of artists in both solo and group shows.
Former business consultant-turned-curator, Jennifer Winsor was born in Montreal and moved to Vancouver after meeting the dentist of her dreams (who would later become her husband). Now with two young children (three if you count the gallery), Winsor certainly has a lot on her plate.
The 6,000-square- foot-space saw a complete overhaul that included the discovery of two skylights which now allow for natural light to flood the space. Winsor Gallery was formerly located on Howe Street, where it was significantly smaller than it is now.
