Ultra Supper Club. In fact, I had never before even heard of Ultra Supper Club. Upon seeing the invitation, I naturally assumed the name was a typo; and I thought calling the place Ultra
Super Club was a touch excessive. I needed to implement some early reconnaissance. A preliminary survey of their website intimated to me an air of true luxury. The owners -
The Guvernment nightclub's Charles Khabouth and Kindred Spirits Catering's Brenda Lowes - seem to have made a great choice in architecture, employing the obvious talents of munge//leung: design associates. There's a large dining area with cozy booths to one side, a lounge and a dance floor. There's a courtyard patio and a rooftop patio. There are at least five separate bars and any number of hidden VIP rooms. All in all, a lot of ground for me to cover in one night. I know
I was impressed. In fact, the awe I felt was directly proportional to the degree to which this place seemed to illuminate the limitations of my own pocketbook.
Bonnie and I approached the club with excitement and some trepidation. We knew the place by the swarm of people outside, all of them squawking like chicks to be fed. Emboldened by the prospect of sidestepping the amorphous mass, we elbowed our way to the velvet rope and waited. Now what?
