DJ Mash-Up: Battle of the Sexes
he title of this three-month event portends sample-driven, aural found art mixing (see Girl Talk) as well as post-feminist, neo-primal battle. Each Thursday at Dream, Battle of the Sexes sees two separate ménage a trois DJ clashes (hot): one amongst three women, the other amongst three men. The victors, proclaimed by judge, DJ Bill Kelly, will move on to the next round. A showcase for loop, meld, cut, and blip upstarts, it's like a reality game show, but without the cloying host, histrionics, television cameras - never mind, it's nothing like a reality show.
The final confrontation will pit the emergent female DJ against her male counterpart, with the winner receiving coveted slots at the Winter Music Conference and the Ultra Music Festival, as well as a cover shot in the South Beach News, and the Best Miami Mash-Up DJ award. What did DJ Q win in Juice? Hopefully these DJs won't have to drop Pac off of a roof. Incidentally, who's got the juice now? -S.T. | If you enjoyed this article, you should also check out | | Cowboys: Gone Fishing [Full Story] | | Come Home to Fez Batik [Full Story] | | Opium Lounge vs Toi Bar [Full Story] | | Dining 2007: New Tables, New Concepts, New Faces [Full Story] | | James Bond Selects Smirnoff for Casino Royale [Full Story] | | Mardi Gras Mischief: Interview With Stephan Grondin [Full Story] |
