uji's has attracted quite a bit of attention since moving into the west side hot spot that was previously occupied by another Japanese joint. Considering the consistent rave reviews, however, nobody seems to be mourning the old place. Even the skeptics are more interested in embracing the new.

Yuji's serves up traditional Japanese fare with a European twist in its presentation. Dishes are served in small plate tapas style; a method conducive to generally slimmer Japanese portions. With prices like Yuji's though, there is always room for more.
The menu highlights include the Kamonegi Roll made up of grilled duck breast and grilled green onion with teriyaki sauce for $7.50 and the Maguro Avocado Crepe with wasabi mayo covered with a sweet and spicy sauce for $7.75. The more adventurous eater can try the Grilled Tender Beef Tongue with ponzu Daikon sauce ($8.50) as an added delicacy.
It is no easy feat to win over Vancouver's picky sushi-eating elite and the fact that Yuji's has done so is reason enough to give it try. The price doesn't hurt either. -J.T.
