fter a flight overseas, a PowerPoint presentation and some paperwork, Yaggers has opened its door to the public. Given full exclusive rights by the Jagermeister Corporation as being a bar dedicated to the smooth, delicious liqueur, I lick my lips and push past a sign reading “Big Heavy door – Push Hard”.
Inside the self proclaimed “funtastic eatatorium and drinking hole” I immediately notice the large painted Jagermeister mural gracing the downstairs accent wall above a black leather armchair and loveseat set. I secretly envy the two men who have beaten me to the cozy looking arrangement. My guest and I decide on a table near the window, and are pleasantly surprised at the softness of the high back orange chairs. The newly renovated lounge comes off clean modern and relaxed, we settle in and let the experience begin.
The evening starts off with an introduction to our server and Yagger’s owner Dan Wood, I trust we are in good hands and request Dan choose for my companion and I a creation he is most proud of. Within moments our server returns armed with a prideful grin, two shots of the establishments namesake, and a round of Oh Canada cocktails, a refreshing creation of Jagermeister, Grand Marnier and Pineapple juice.
With food on the brain and grumbling bellies, my date and I turn our attention to the food menu. The selection features a spin on some old time favourites as well offering a fusion of worldly entrées. We decide on a parade of appetizers including scrumptious Albacore Tuna wonton ravioli, wasabi and Jagermeister flavored chicken wings, and warm spinach salad with candied walnuts.
