Owners Brad Ford and Mihwa Lee have designed an ambitious spot that works well on a number of levels, depending on what you’re coming here for: daytime café, fresh Belgian Liege snackery or low-key restaurant, all wrapped up in a tender love story.

Wicked has atmosphere on its side: The music is kept at a level that allows for conversation, it’s light and airy, you can sit and nurse your cup and scribble the Mediocre American Novel and no one will glower at you (except maybe during the lunch rush, when tables are needed).

It's possible to be alone without feeling universally alone at Wicked where no one will bother you but you remain free to enjoy the community atmosphere that pervades. Eavesdrop on local gossip, chat with the workers about soup-making tips, sip a latte, eat a homemade cookie, and feel the pangs of solitude subside. - R.L.
