his is fine dining to the tee. Elegant décor and divine food to pair. With dishes like Villa's signature lamb shank Osso Buco, tomatoes, cinnamon, garlic and Chianti wine, saffron and Parmesan risotto with gremolata (32) and Young Duck breast and boneless Quail vegetables and ricotta cappelletti, with braised cabbage, aged balsamic and honey reduction (37), you will surely be leaving satisfied.

Villa del Lupo used to be a place where outstanding food and outstanding service were the norm. Then it changed owners, chefs, and management.
The most flagrant victim of the new regime is the service. Somehow you can't shake the feeling that the staff has been trained by the Marx Brothers. The host will guide you to your table with a hearty "This way, folks!" (is one supposed to respond with an equally hearty "Yee-haw"?) and proceed to watch with detached interest how the ladies seat themselves. The waiter will insist on taking your order in its entirety, from the cocktails right through to dessert, and mix it all up accordingly. The waiter's colleague (a McDonald's graduate?) will pour your white wine into the red wine glasses, having nonchalantly skipped the little matter of letting the guest taste before pouring. When having the problem brought to his attention, he will react enthusiastically: "You're absolutely correct, sir." This, alas, will be the extent of the response, at least until the same problem is pointed out again, this time to the Maitre d' who appears to refill your red wine glasses from the white wine bottle she has pinned under her right arm. Another waitress must have been promoted into waitering straight from her paper round, going by the consummate skill with which she tosses checks on tables. She also has a habit of wiping her armpit past one's nose when pouring. While somewhat disturbing to sensitive diners, the slick move saves her the long hike round to the guest's right hand side.
Fine Dining? Hardly, all the more so as the food, solidly (or should that be 'stolidly'?) mediocre, is far too uninspired and uninspiring to make up for the appalling service. All in all, a hugely disappointing experience and, for what's on offer, hugely overpriced.
