I have never been to the Century House for casual drinks or dinner. It seems close enough to the cusp of Gastown to entice pre-partiers, but has failed to do so. The only time that I recall spending an entire, rock out evening at the Century House involved an invite-only, long-planned, event party. Otherwise, it’s not the sort of place for casual lounging (that may explain its patronlessness). Sadly, the Century House is the type of place that feels empty unless it is completely full.
The film industry loves the space, so owners must be thankful for Hollywood North. Because the Century House impresses, accommodates crowds and segregates the bump (upstairs) from the grind (downstairs), it’s the perfect place for the Van’s elite to feel, well, elite. Every year, at least two of Vancouver’s premiere talent agencies hold their Christmas Parties here. I’ve attended over a dozen wrap parties for various productions here as well. Just beware, while it’s one of the greatest structures that Van has to offer, the Century House has a the-more-the-merrier vibe that needs to be adhered to.
While the Century House offers a menu of lush food and delicious drinks, the house itself is feast enough. If you have never been, go. Just make sure there’s a party going on. With Christmas just around the party, that shouldn’t be hard.
