s any Disney movie will tell you, dreams do come true. Hidekazu Tojo’s dream of opening a sushi restaurant has become a reality- Tojo’s has opened in Vancouver.

Some of the best new features are the sake lounge and bar, which is perfect for resting up after a hard day at work. And let me assure you the Hidekazu prepares only the best of sushi, as he is truly a sushi master. His refined marketing skills and great personality attract celebrities in every direction. You just may sit next to Brad, Angelina, and their 9 kids. And I’m not kidding. Steven Tyler called to offer Tojo congrats, while Jessica Abla and the Prince of Holland will all be visiting shortly. Trevor Linden of the Vancouver Canucks has also visited, casually saying ‘Hi’ to Tojo like they’re long lost buddies.
Many of the dishes have crazy (and quite funny) names like Magnum P.I. Tamaki. The sushi and sashimi are expertly prepared, while the resto also offers cooked dishes such as anakake tofu for the people timid of raw food. Other good cooked choices are the halibut ($27) or tempura ($21). The owner prides himself on the food not being overly expensive considering the quality of ingredients. Although I’m sure the mark up is still there- no resto makes a living off of cheap food. The rice is even expertly selected, as young rice is stickier versus one and two year old rice. I’d also agree that youngins tend to be stickier, while two year olds are mostly self-sufficient and know where their mouth is.
For the rich, a special order, try omakase (anywhere from $60- over $110). This allows the chefs to create almost anything they want, such as scallops with rhubarb, hirame and minkfish liver in sui choi, and other offerings. Basically, they take care of your entire meal and ensure you’re well fed and full.
While the resto’s servers may not be the friendliest, the food is quite good and the celebrity sightings are aplenty. Give the resto a try for a new dining experience- and if you hate sushi, just plug your nose and pop it in.
