y nine o’clock on a typical Wednesday night, the Red Room will be packed. Oftentimes, there will be barely enough room to move around the plush couch-seating and high stool tables, let alone find a good vantage point from which to clearly see the goods on stage.
This is partly because of the popular nightclub’s drive on booking live music, geared to lure a more varied crowd. Techno still headlines on Thursday nights and Fridays still pull in a weekend warrior crowd to fill their hip-hop fix, while Saturday night brings a throwdown of Global house beats. But Wednesdays are nights for solid rock and roll.
Local acts Blood Meridian and Pink Mountaintops, for example, recently opened for Washington, DC rockers Dead Meadow. The potential is certainly here for a heady psychedelic rock-opera marathon, complete with hypnotically dense guitar solos and endless drum jams. I came in to this concert familiar with the music, and had high expectations.
While the openers warmed up the crowd, I found it surprisingly easy to get a drink at the bar within five minutes, despite the fact that this show was sold out in advance. This is probably (and thankfully) due to the triad of watering holes, equally stocked and well-manned. One giant spot-lit bar at the back of the venue is flanked by two smaller but equally accessible ones on each side of the standing-room crowd. Service is always quick and friendly.
As Dead Meadow broke out, the lighting and production was nothing short of impressive. Spots and floodlights lit up on cue with drumbeats and basslines, visualizing the tunes perfectly. Multicoloured sixties-style bubble lights swam all over the faces in the crowd. It was rock’n’roll utopia.

3 Reader Reviews | Red Room is a pretty dope spot, It's a little grimey but it still is dope. Everything sounds so good in there and the bartender's (yes, are sort of dicks) the one guy said that if you wern't gonna tip dont order from his bar. I thought that was kind of lame. I saw a hardcore show there and then stayed a bit for the club scene after. like i said great sound crowd is a little iffy. Mixture of so many kinda of people. overall give this club a B+ its alright for service and crowd but sound is definitly an A+ its crazy good

The Red Room is by far the worst nightclub I have ever been to. The bartenders give major attiude, and the prices are outrageous. I asked the bartender for a glass of water, and she told me the manager did not allow her to give away glasses of water, and that I had to buy a bottle of water, which cost $4.25. I went to the bar where the manager was working, and ordered a glass of water. He told me he would give it to me, but he was doing me a huge favour and I shouldn't expect it next time. I asked him why I wasn't welcome to a glass of water whenever I like, and he started yelling at me saying I should know better than to ask for something for free that I didnt have the right to. He asked me to leave the bar. I have never been treated this way in my life, and I was absolutely disgusted with his behaviour, not to mention the fact that he is the General Manager of the place. I will never return to this place, because every single person who works there is a jerk, and the manager is a total asshole. No one should go there and support such a business.
