Start out with a baby spinach salad ($10) that delivers a whiff of smoked hazelnut, with citrus vinaigrette to give it sweetness. From there, move on to a few shared plates: The seared spring salmon ($15) favours hints of citrus and saffron, paired with roasted potatoes and Okanagan apricots; the OC fish and Chips ($15) is less exciting, with deep-fried halibut and house-cut fries. The Ocean menu also features “steak and eggs,” - Ahi tuna steak tartare with fried quail egg, that is.
The waitstaff, knowledgeable and fast, are top notch, well trained, and cordial without being intrusive. The wine menu is well priced, with glasses ranging from $5.50 to $17. By opening an 800 square foot patio in time for the summer and having a double-sided indoor fireplace during the winter, this could be a great stop for travelers on their way to and from Whistler. The O.C. is a fresh face on the scene, and serves the best Dog's Bollucks in the country. What's that? If you want to know, you'll have to go. - L.H.
