Overrated and Overhyped.WARNING: WAITERS ARE VEGETARIAN AND WON'T GIVE YOU OPINIONS
I've heard all the claims about this place. The 2 hour line ups and the amazing food.
Honestly? I've had better and I didn't have to line up for 2 hours.
Their service is terrible. I'm not gonna agree with the race issue with Tom, but their service IS terrible. The hostesses are fine, they greet you coldly but they greet you. The waiters are the issue here. I was seated with my friends and when the waiter came to take our order I asked him what the Roast Lamb was like here. This is his exact words, " I don't know, I'm a vegetarian." First of all, I don't care what you are. All I wanted was an opinion, any opinionl; what do the customers say? Second of all, the tone of rudeness the came from him was unbelievable. I understand your restaurant is busy, but come on, I get better service than that at a Hong Kong Cafe and I pay half the price for the same amount of food. The food is generally good, nothing spectacular and it seems like presentation isn't a big concern either. If you like your food thrown onto your plate than this might be your place. There are plenty of Tavernas in the Lower Mainland that serve better food than Stephos. Greek food in general isn't the most expensive food anyway, so why line up 2 hours for waiters who don't care about your dining experience and food that looks sloppy. I'd take my business elsewhere.

I'd like to reply to what Tom said. Stepho's is an extremely busy restaurant, and the staff have to work their butts off the second they get in the door. The reason a waitress never greeted you was because it's NOT their job. It's the host's. And trust me, they have enough of their own stuff to do. And if you seat yourself, expect to get a response from the staff that resembles annoyance. You DON'T go to a restaurant and seat yourself. It's rude! There are many factors involved in where the hostess will seat you, and maybe the waiter that you sat yourself at probably got 3 tables in a row. Enabling him to not be able to give you the proper service.
I've noticed that in the food industry, customers are not understanding, unforgivable, and sometimes downright rude. If you've ever worked in the food industry, you'd understand. Give them a break! And this is definitely one restaurant where the staff work super hard for not enough money, and hey, you're getting a TON of food for less than $11 a plate. You can buy a bottle of wine for $16, for Christ's sake! If you're not satisfied, go elsewhere and pay $16 for your roast lamb.
The thing some unruly customers don't seem to understand is that when you go into a restaurant, you are REQUESTING someone else's service. They are offering you a service. You want something from THEM. So leave the attitude at home!

ive read tom chens review and was horrified at first because i had a hard time believing that could be...however sometimes ones job or bad can make them act a certain way and maybe perhaps rude..thats not a full excuse just a reason maybe. My question would be are you sure it was because of your race. the description didn't make that clear. Ive always loved the food the portions, and the value which make it great!

I really think that this is a great Restaurant... everything is great.. the food, the environment and even the location. Honestly everytime that I’m around the Westend I have to stop there.. To my point of view this is the best greek restaurant in Vancouver.

I have no clue what that Tom dude is talking about...
I'm asian too and I had awesome service, the waiter came and asked me how my meal was several times. Only down fall is the long line up but thats usual of the place and it sure is worth the wait.
The food is awesome and for the price you pay even better.
I don't know why people have to play the racism card every time something doesn't work out their way. Maybe its just the waiter they got, it doesn't mean the entire restaurant is like that.
So I suggest you give it a try.

If you are an Asian or African American, you might want to give this restaurant a miss. Although the food is pretty good and value for money, the attitude of the staff towards asians and african americans are unforgivable.
I am an asian. The waitress on duty totally ignored me and my girlfriend while we stood at the door waiting to be served. And the restaurant wasn't even half filled. When we proceed to seat ourselves after 3 min of waiting, the waitres just throw the menu on the table and walked away.
Another waiter was totally impatient while taking our order, and walked away before I could finish. The Greek salad was served without cheese, and I am pretty sure thats not an accident. No waiter came and ask us how our meal is...
The racism is too diffcult to ignore. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to... So bad.. the food didn't taste good. So, unless you are not proud of your race and is willing to endure such racist treatment, DON't visit this restaurant...
