hey may be small, but they always pack in a full house. Line-ups at Samurai can be extensive but diners say it is worth the wait. Great food quality for phenomenal prices (usually under $10)—Samurai is often boasted to have gargantuan food portions, terrible ambiance, but excellent food. - A.C.

3 Reader Reviews | What is the deal with Vancouver and sushi? Maybe having lived in Japan decades has jilted me but stop hiring sushi chefs you think "thicker is better." This is one of the worst places and I'm sure "Vancouverites" love it as it's always full. Go to Granville Island, go to the stalls in the public market, go to the sushi place in there...that's the ONE place in the city they know what they are doing. Or if you are in the 'burbs hit BC Sushi House on Kingsway.
The rest are just plain bad if you have actual taste buds.
I will say one thing Samurai does do right--karage (J-fried chicken). That's it.

I've got to rate this little gem of a place 3 stars.. as it's a fabulous value and they serve great tasting sushi, however it does lack ambiance and friendly chatty staff!
The first time I ate here, I over-ordered and I left sushi on my plate.. I think we spent a total of $50 between us. Truely, you can spend < $30 and be more than satisfied, and there are loads of menu items to order which as in the $10 or less range.
I do eat in the restaurant on the rare occasion, however .. more often I order large qties to bring home and serve at my in home dinner parties or just for those quiet in home dinners with a movie.
You just can't beat it! This little place churns out a ton of fish and in generous portions, so there is really very little chance of getting anything but fresh fish. Their staff always is on the move and seriously busy.. so if you are looking for a place with a cheerful, chatty staff and great ambiance, go elsewhere as you will be disappointed. However, if you are going just for great sushi, this is the place!
