"Salaam Bombay/Here's to everything in Bombay/Here's to the poor/And the oppressed/Who have to die before they're blessed/ Salaam Bombay"

Here is to everything in Bombay! Salam Bombay will change the way you approach Indian food forever. Say goodbye to acrid curries, and too hot to taste anything vindaloos. The gold accented room is decorated in lush colors against dark wood furniture. The food is simple but incredibly tasty. Salad of chickpeas and potato, lentil soup, and mains of short ribs, wild boar, or lamb cassava are more interesting than the standard buffet fare.

Loved the fact that its a beautiful restaurant well kept and in the midst of craziness its a great hide out. Food was delecious and flavourfull. Service was very friendly and courteous and never felt rushed. It is infact a great place to treat or to be treated.

Our group of 8 persons, went to celebrate our friend’s birthday, ordered Tandor items, Curries, breads, rice and of course wine.
Location, décor, service and food taste is good but portions are exceptionally small.
I have never seen such small portions of tandor items anywhere. Paner tika hardly had any paner, and small curry portions make the restaurant expensive. We all could see - cost cutting at customer’s expense.

Good catch Dan. I did a search on the site for a half a dozen of these reviewer names. This is the only place they have ever reviewed. Coincidence? Me thinks not!

Are all these Salam Bombay reader reviews written by the same person? (restaurant owner?)

Being a vegeterian my choices are always few. The eggplant Bharta, Alu Gobi and Channa saag was absolutely stunning. Garlic naans with that fresh garlic and cilantros on top was excellent. As a vegeterian I was really impressed. Like the previous reviewer I noted that nothing was overly greasy or over powering by spices. I could really enjoy every dish with its uniqueness. Just that they dont have my favourite Okras on the menu. But every thing else did make it up for that.

Having dined in most of the Lowermainland Indian eateries, I have to admit this has become our favourite lately. The food, Service and atmosphere has been consistently excellent. The balance of spices and flavours is admirable. Like most Indian places the food here isnt greasy and never felt heavy. Those nans are unbelievable. I love therr chicken saag and Lamb Methi. And the fact that the prices are the same we pay on main street or Kings way. Love it Love it.

ALL THE PREVIOUS REVIEWERS HAVE PRAISED IT WELL AND HAVING DINED HERE FEW TIMES I WOULD LOVE TO LEAVE FEW MORE WORDS OF PRAISE. THE PEOPLE HERE ARE REALLY HUMBLE, VERY FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. AND THE FOOD IS SIMPLY AMAZING. THE VARIED FLAVOURS WITH EVERY DISH REDEFINES THE APPROACH TOWARDS THE CUISINE ITSELF. EVERY DISH IS ELEGANT AND TASTES SO THAT THE CHEF HAS PREPARED IT TO HIS OR HER DATE TO IMPRESS. THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE AND THEY DID CARE IRRESPECTIVE OF THE AMOUNT OF DOLLARS WE SPENT EVERY TIME THAT WE DID ENJOY OUR VISIT. I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS IS THE VANCOUVERS MOST UNDER RATED RESTAURANT. SOMETHING CHARMING WITH THIS PLACE WANTING TO GO BACK.

This is such a nice restaurant. Beautiful setting, simple but elegant, and the food is amazing. Went there for a friends birthday and we asked the server what his recomendations were. He said the halibut, which we didn't order. But he brought it out anyway. The service was just as good as the food. He also brought us out dessert on the house which was deep fried bananas and ice cream...mmmm so good!... The appies were delish and so were the entrees. Very impressed, would definitely go there again. And recommend this to all my friends. And the prices are great too! :)

An Elegant Indian Restaurant for a change in Downtown. The food was amazing. Halibut is my favourite on the mains. Shisk kabab was succulent, hot and delicious. The colours, the lounge, the windows all adds up to the ambience and Alberni st. What a location they have. Just adds up to the list of finest restaurants we have in Vancouver. One thing I noticed even after having such flavourfull dishes My clothes didnt smell any curry. Unbelievable.

One of the nicest dinners we had in Vancouver. Mesmerising flavours. The chicken Cafreal and Halibut masala wrapped in banana leaf was definitely our favourites. Musk Ox, Boar and chicken kabab was excellent. It seems like Nouveille Indian reaching far south. The food simply took us off our feet as we kept digging for more. Amazing flavours. Wasnt too spicey either. The dining room was spectacular too and very friendly service.

Absolutely stunning, The food was. The room itself id incredible. Tell me about the location, right on Burrard and alberni. Lots of windows. Tandoori highlights serving Musk ox, venison, wild boar, Kangaroo caught us of gaurd but they were very delightfull. The halibut wrapped in banana leafwith spices and baked was outstanding. so was the rack of lamb, beef ribs, Paneer kofta the other entrees at our table. Loved it here

This a great room, contemporary and eletric, lots of windows and bright. Great location right in the heart of downtown. What amazes us was the food. Never tried before dishes and absolutely seducing flavours. This one is out standing. The service was excellent too.

Try their Halibut and Casava mash mmm the best.

Its been a long time waiting for an upscale Indian restaurant in Vancouver. In a land of blind the squint was king that was Vijs. The media guru was bland and tasteless. But this room fills a big Void. The food is outstanding. Theres nothing on the menu that you will find in an Indian restaurant. the way its presented is beautiful and the sauces are amazing. Food is that swept us of our feet. The roomis airy and lots of windows overlooking Burrard and Alberni. And the location right in downtown. Service just compliments.

By far our best Indian experience in Vancouver. Vancouver's Indian restaurants were all boring. Most of the year being cold here we wanted a nice Indian restaurant witha change. Exotic meats like wild boar and Elk was interesting. Calamari with shaved coconut, beef short ribs curried just seducing flavours. Worth mentioning a great winelist unusual to an Indian restaurant. And service was awesome.

The best Indian Experience I had ever. This is not your average Punjabi restaurant but an elegant Indian Restaurant. We were ther for Lunch. I had their wild boar appy, my friends tried their, chic pea potato, calamari and chicken salad. For mains I had Halibut, my friends tried Prawns, Lamb Casava and Tandoori Elk. Everything was excellent. I have to say that was the best Halibut I had in ages. Totally an experience I was impressed off
